O.k. I'm a bit confused I thought do to the famous Mac bug where we crash if you download stuff in the background that the Mac wasn't getting the download on demand? I believe a DEV mentioned this a week or so ago in the Sisi feedback thread. So has something changed with the crashing while downloading, or did we just unleash a wave of crashes on newbies who think they can run this on their mac?

We introduced a workaround for that issue. We're hoping that come the next Cider upgrade this will not be an issue at all.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR MAC USERS!

Today we released an update to the client that adds download on demand functionality. Unfortunately, this functionality is not backwards compatible with the old Clonemaker. Fear not though, as we have resolved this issue and you can download the compatible version here.

To fix this, you will need to delete any existing clones that you use, and recreate them using the new version of Clonemaker linked above.

I just ran through this without a hitch. Including copying over the old cache files with all the locally saved settings. The steps involved, in detail:
1. Go into username/Library/Application Support (if yours is invisible, google instructions on how to make it visible)
2. Rename the Eve Online folders that belong to clones, they will have the same names as the Eve app clones. I suggest renaming by adding the word "old" or something similar to the end, for ease of keeping track.
3. Delete old Clonemaker app and cloned versions of the Eve app
4. Download and install new version of Clonemaker.
5. Run clone maker, pick whatever names you like
6. Go back into Application Support and you will see a new folder matching the name you made in Step 5
7. Open up this folders and open all its subfolders until you find an alias for Shared Cache, which should be the only file inside (located at Eve Online Clone 1/p_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/Eve on the default install)
8. Move the alias for Shared Cache to the equivalent location in the "old" folder in Application Support containing the data you want to re-use. The old folder should have a lot of files inside its CCP/Eve subfolder, including a folder named c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility. If you don't see that, you're probably in the wrong location.
9. Rename the "old" folder in Application Support to the same name as the clone you made in Step 5.
10. Repeat steps 5-9 as many times as you have clones.
11. Run clones, revel in your settings being saved, send me isk.

"spam"

it is always a problem if you relay on middleware like cider and have to build workarounds for bugs that you cannot change on your own. I work in it business since there is an it business and i can tell that software quality is not getting better only a lot more complex because of all the tools and middleware. So sometimes it is not realy fair to complain about ccp development for all of the bugs but it can help if ccp comments on bugs and the timeframe for a solution. in my real live job i always like a "know bug / workaround / know limitations" database on software products, but mostly the marketing or legal guys try to keep problems quite and let anybody find out about problems on their own.

buy the way i woud like a native mac client to.....

To summarise, each clone would create its own unique repository of cached files which greatly increases the space requirements if using cloned clients.

To fix this, you will need to delete any existing clones that you use, and recreate them using the new version of Clonemaker linked above.

Please give us feedback or raise any queries you have in this thread.

OK, that may be why I got 3 crashes today. I was using old clones.

Edit: Killed the old clones, made new ones. Ran one, and looked at what it did with SharedCache.

In that folder was the ResFiles folder, which contained 250 meg of data. I had trashed the one made when I ran the old clone, so the new clone made this one. Also in there was an alias to SharedCache of my main instal.

No time available right now for more testing, Ill see what happens.

Since the new update my launcher freezes at "Downloading Eve Launcher Update". Absolutely nothing happens.
Tried deleting cache, etc, all the workarounds i could find.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

This means either a: someone logging in to a different account on that machine won't be able to play Eve, or b: That person can play Eve, but only because the Eve client is somehow bypassing security restrictions on accessing other user's data.

Please seriously consider relocating the cache to the main Library folder to avoid potential problems with this. Well unless you have a specific reason for wanting different users to have different game installs, for all practical purposes.

Thanks for the comment. We are not entirely happy with current setup for Mac and I'll make sure to bring this into our internal discussion.

Now, i keep the preferences in different folders for each client and then, via a bash script, i move a plist file around before launching the clients.

This way i only have one installation and save a lot of precious space on my SSD.

If i'll use the clonemaker, each clone it's going to have 25Gb or not?

After updating to Scyalla on my Mac I get nothing but a black screen when launching the EvE client (either via the launcher or digging through the package to find the app itself). After waiting a minute or so EvE crashed back to the desktop with the error:

TransGaming C Runtime Library
Runtime error!
Program: C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\bin\exefile.exe
abnormal program termination

And sometimes:

Exception raised
Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x0000006c
at address 0x1e1e70a6.

This is under OSX 10.10.2 that was running Tiamat fine.

No. This is the reason you should update your clones with the latest clonemaker. We had to make a change to it so that all the clones would use the same shared cache folder.

I had abandoned clones about 3 months ago because they were becoming less and less stable (freezing , DC's). I had moved to runnng 2 sep. clients side by side.
With a single resource cache .. will I still be able to run 2 clients - will it generate the same clusterfunkage that resulted in two clients sharing the same prefs folder- or do you recommend me moving back to clonemaker clones.

Edit .. Trying to run an updated client through its binary will not connect me to the server
THe clonemaker comes back as "Broken" although

Any plans on fixing that one?

We're in discussions with our partner regarding it, they are aware of the issue and that issue exists on their side. We are endorsing Clonemaker as a solution in the meantime.

Thanks for this! I'll definately install this then. Running 5 clients and having them all lock up whenever you want to change characters is rather harsh.

THe whole storage location of the Eve install isn't new. The Cache has been in this location since I started using Eve on my Mac.

That should've been fixed, can I ask you to check a setting for me? System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General tab: What is "Allow applications downloaded from:" set to?

Not OP - but for me opening the clonemaker gives the following message:
Quote:
"EVE Clonemaker" is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash

I still can run it by finding the script inside it and run that directly. It was the same on the previous version of the clonemaker, possibly been like this since I got this computer (5K iMac, Yosemite).

I have the setting "Allow apps downloaded from Mac App Store and identified developers".

Ive been monitoring the downloading by the clones I made. I made new ones as recommended by CCP. They are still downloading a set of ResFiles all their own. The folder is up to 1.2 gig, just flying around Jita for 15 minutes.

Also, even with the new clones, I am getting freeze-crashes. But now they come with an exception notice, asking if I want to report the crash. (I have done so 4 times now). Oddly, once that exception window pops up, the game un-freezes.

These events are happening at the start or end of warps. I'm guessing they are caused by the background DoD that the client is doing, despite having an alias to the ResFile of the main instal.

Edit: I think I sorted the issue. Here is what NOT to do:

Update main instal.
Run an old clone
See CCP's notice about the need for a new clone maker.
Get the new clonemaker
Delete old clones, make new ones

The issue is the new clones still use the old files in Application support. Those got used when I ran the old clones with a client that uses DoD. The result is the new clonemakerr put the alias to the SharedCache in the wrong place.

Here is what works: (And I did by accident with one clone.)

Update main instal.
See CCP's notice about the need for a new clone maker.
Get the new clonemaker
Delete old clones, make new ones

Here is the fix if you did it wrong:

Go to Library/Application Support/Eve Online clone/p_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/SharedCache
In SheredCache there will be an alias to your main SharedCache folder in your main instal. Drag that onto the desktop for now.
Trash the folder SharedCache.
Drag the alias SharedCache back to take it's place.

CCP: What you can do to make this issue go away: When the clonemaker tries to put the alias SharedCache in Library/Application Support/Eve Online clone/p_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE, there will be a problem if a folder named SharedCache is already there. The Alias ends up in the wrong place. What you need the script to do is first trash the SharedCache folder, then make the alias.

So, I have started getting massive FPS drops since the update.

I have cleared my cache, tried repair tool, changed to directX9, and atm running on lowest graphic settings, and I am STILL having this problem.

I live in a wormhole, so I've only tested it inside a POS and in empty space, but this is my problem:

chillaxing inside a POS forcefield. Max zoomed out. Average 200 FPS (I dont know how to cap it to like 60, please do inform me how to do that). At max zoom, zoom in really quick. As soon as the camera "hits" the forcefield, massive FPS drop to like 10 fps for 1-2 seconds and then goes back to avg 200.

Same thing when trying to quickly zoom out of a POS forcefield.

No FPS drop trying the same thing in empty space.

My computer isnt super good but I've been running on really high graphics up until now, without problem.

please help :>
