PLEXING only with missions running, is it possible?

hi all,

this is my situation currently: I had played eve for 3 months a long time ago (since apocrypha) and always wanted to go back to it. due to financial issues and real life limitations (Im a student, no credit card) Im unable to pay for subscription (god knows I would If I could) and couldnt start up my account again.

A few days ago I received a 60 trial account from which really got me interested about diving into EVE again... but with the same limitations I mentioned I only had 1 option left which is to go after a PLEX. Since this is about how much isk/per hour and how much hours Im willing to spend on EVE, mission running seems to be the best bet for doing this especially since im not busy with anything I could spend alot of hours per day. but with very high PLEX prices and trial account limitations Im not sure if this is even possible...

So... should I go for it or should I save myself from wasting 2 months and some serious disappointment Lol

I would spend the Christmas break with family and friends, and being social.

If you really want to throw your life away chasing the ISK to play a game for free, instead of getting a part time job stacking shelves at the supermarket, I would recommend aiming straight for a HML Drake with best-named T1 fitting. You'll end up making about 10M ISK/hr, and thus in the 60 days you'll need to average about 8M ISK/day.

Along the path to the drake, get into a Cerberus. Don't aim for T2 skills anywhere, get into a Drake with decent shield tank, but don't use SPRs. Use overdrive injector & afterburner to boost your speed and you'll be able to tank most missions without a break. Use the lows for Ballistic Controls.

Why do I recommend a T1 fitted drake? Quite simply, this is the fastest way I know to get into L4 missions. Turret based ships will require extensive skill training.

Another option is to find some friends who run L4s, and train into an Oracle or Tornado as quickly as possible. Let your friend do the tanking, you just come along to provide DPS. Stick to T1 weapons and tank until you have most support skills to 4: training one skill to 5 will cost you too much time.

But seriously consider getting a shelf-stacking job and using that income to fund your game time. A mindless job won't distract too much from your studies, unless you try burning the midnight oil and end up too tired to learn anything.

I believe you mean Caracal. The Cerberus is the HAC.

I mostly agree with the previous poster though, you'll be hard pressed to make enough ISK 60d after you start the game for a PLEX, you'd be better off saving up for a bit beforehand and then paying for a couple months worth with cash before PLEXing. Personally, it took me about 6 months between when I started the game and when I could comfortably PLEX my way through the game (and by now I play for fun and end up with PLEX money because of it).

So, it is possible to make ISK to pay via PLEX from the start, but it's going to be a long hard grind if you're doing it grinding lvl 4s all day.

It is possible to make enough isk for a plex in 60 days if you know how, just set a goal to make a least 10 mil isk per day and go do some low level exploration in high sec for radar sites, they can pay pretty good if you're lucky. It should not be too hard to reach your first 50 million, mix it up a bit with missions but missions for me is really boring and a massive grind.

Oh and last time I checked you can't train for battlecruiser on trial accounts so lvl 4 missions are out of the question and lvl 3 missions would be pretty hard with limited skills and in just a cruiser. Maybe you could take a risk and find a good lowsec system and have at the occasional battleship spawns.

Since I dont live in the USA, an easy to do part-time job wont come by so easily. besides the problem is not the money, its ways of payment...

If remember correctly I couldnt actually do lvl4 missions in a t1 fitted drake.. after all some of these missions are kind of heavy.

I figured that since I heard stories of some people managing to plex after just 14 days of trial, I could do it in 60, especially with all the time in the world. P

I've seen prepaid credit cards suggested few times, so you could check if you can buy those somewhere.

T1 fitted Drake is just to get enough standing for level 4 missions. To actually do those missions you would need something better.

I do know a player who managed to get 1 billion ISK during first 14 days, but he had extensive prior knowledge about EVE. For player who has no knowledge about EVE it will take a lot longer.

New to EVE? Don't forget to read: The Manual * The Wiki * The Career Options * and everything else

Believe me I had the idea of returning to EVE for a long time, Ive thought about all possible and not-possible options I could do, this is the only way for me.

Yes the key to this is the knowledge of the game, things like moving to null sec and playing the markets, but I dont need such deep knowledge of the game. Maybe a buddy program deal, with some tips on how to get the rest of the isk needed, and the rest will come with sheer grinding... but I havnt found some one yet with an offer like that.

Steam has the game on sale right now for $6.80, which comes with 30 days. I just extended my trial account with a key from steam, you can probably do the same, so for under $7 you would get 90 days of game play, and all trial restrictions lifted. (And they accept paypal, so no CC needed)

EDIT: I should mention that my trial was a steam trial and only 14 days, so I didn't get quite that good of a deal as you might be able to.

EDIT2: Corrected 120 days to 90 days, not sure why I thought the trial was 90 days, but I apparently did.

The drake is a battlecruiser. You can't train the battlecruiser skill on a trial account.

Even if you could get into a drake (which you can't) on a trial account, you can't pull level 4 missions on a trial.

I do not think it is possible to get the ISK for a PLEX from missioning alone. I tried it, just to see if I could, and kept runing into the road blocks.

The much more likely way of makingt the ISK is via exploration (looking for radar sites) or ninja salvaging.

I would hang out in heavy mission running sites (you can figure out where those are by looking for L4 agents on eve-agents dot com. Probe out battleships running level 4 missions, then salvage thier large wrecks.

Open up the wreck to look at loot. Change it to details view, then add the meta level column and sort on that. When you see a meta 4 item, view market details. If you find something worth millions of ISK, steal it and go dock up for 15 minutes.

Probe out 2-3 L4 mission runners a day, salvage the best wrecks and loot the best items, and you can easily have the PLEX within the 60 day trial.

But just mission running? Not going to happen with L2s in a cruiser for 200K ISK an hour.

Ok but how would I add the 30 days I get from steam to by 60 day trial account, do I get some kind of code for the 30 days?

Good post, thank you.

Do you know where I could read up on radar sites? (how to scan for them properly, what to expect going in... etc)

I think switching between salvaging and radar sites would eventually work til I plex, then raise my skill levels to Battleship level then I would be able to do lvl 4 missions and break free...

Yes, they will give you a CD-KEY, which you have to go apply to your account.

CD-KEYs appear to only be good on TRIAL and for NEW accounts, so be aware this won't work on an existing non-trial account.

Have you thought about trying your hand at a bit of station trading? I found that with a lot of opportunities to log in during the day (I work from home) it's an extremely good way to make ISK without having to bother with all that messy shooting business for 5 hours a day.

A lot of people just update their orders twice a day and let the money roll in, once you know what sort of items to look for you'd be sorted. Trading is light on the necessary skills, too, they do increase your profits but there's nothing stopping you from just jumping right in and seeing if you enjoy it.

Sidenote: I upgraded my trial account through a similar Steam offer in June, they just give you the activation code and the 30 days are added onto your remaining trial time when you use it, huzzah!

Personally, I look at it that if you have to work at making enough isk in game to redeem a PLEX each month, that's no longer a game you play for fun, it has now become your job.

I use a pre-paid Debit card and I pay for 1 yr sub at a time. It is the best deal and I don't have to worry about making enough isk this month to pay for next months PLEX.

Exploration is just like any other career in this game, it has it's good days and it's fair share of bad days. Best bet is to do the Career agent missions. Very helpful info and they give you skillbooks, ships, modules, etc.

After completing those, take a little bit of time and do some reading on Ninja Salvaging and Exploration. There's plenty of guides about those careers available. Google makes it easy.

http://eve-search.com/

http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Guides

Best tip for high security exploration is study the map stats, look for areas that have low population count. High sec Radar sites are fairly easy to complete and Decryptors will bring in some good isk rather quickly. The equipment gained from the Career Agents will help. As with any career path, specific skills pertaining to that career is essential to maximize profits.

Anyway, good luck to you.

Whoops Sad

My bad on the battlecruiser skill. I had never heard about the level 4 agents not talking to trial accounts though!

There's also the option of flying a DPS or logistics cruiser and supporting someone in L4 missions. Even an Omen or Caracal can provide enough DPS to significantly speed things up for a new mission runner. Or perhaps there are corporations out there who encourage friends & members to mission in groups, purely for the social aspects?

Station trading. Skill up for a Badger 2 or Mammoth. Make truck loads of money station trading, and another truck load trading between regions.

I know sometimes it's difficult to realize just how much you spend on incidental things each month or year, but seriously, EVE is very cheap entertainment compared to most things... If you are a smoker, smoke one less pack a week and pay for EVE, with money left over to pick up a cheap bundle of flowers for the EVE widow upstairs.

Hello Mattikus Hemah,

It might prove to be pretty diffcult earning enough ISK for a PLEX within a month by running Level 2 missions, maybe too difficult and quite boring as well. But there are some considerations for other in-game activites.

You could train for Tech-3 Ships, but they cost more than a PLEX itself, so that wouldn't help you either.

Planetary Interaction is easy tor learn (not on a trial account though) and gives you a nicely quasi-passive income, so you can do it on all your three characters per account. But, as said, you cannot use PI on trial accounts, you need a full account on that.

Salvaging is certainly some reasonable income source. You maybe can even work with some L4 mission runners and split your income with them if they point you always to the new missions, full with wrecks.

Station trading in Jita can be profitable, you can earn a PLEX within a month - if you have the proper starting capital, some knowledge of the EVE market and if you are not scared by numbers. You can learn the necessary skills on a trial account, but if you can get starting capital is another question.

I hope that all will work out for you, so that you can get your EVE career rolling!

I don't know where are you from, and I don't want to dig into your real life, but I think that 15$ per month is not excessive for a game like EVE. Getting a prepaid card is quite easy and it's convenient, not only for EVE but for a lot of other things.

That said, if you are really interested in the game, you could find someone to help you paying the plex price. But you must show him that you are a valid investment, that you can be a valuable asset for him in the future. This is hard, and I suggest you to get a prepaid/debit card instead.

Not to mention the discount for longer period subscriptions.

But for sake of completeness I'll recommend that people interested in making 500M ISK in 60 days read the Making ISK guide on the EVElopedia.
