I was wondering if it is possible take a mining ship out to an asteroid belt and start mining then get back to the station in my pod and pick up another ship to bring back to the asteroid belt, then use the second ship for taking the ore back to the station when i have filled the first ship and jettisoned the ore for pickup by the second ship?IdeaWhat?

Yes, you can. No, it's not a good idea. Someone else can take the ship you are not occupying.

Nothings stopping you, but nothing's stopping someone else from hijacking your mining ship in between hauling trips, or hijacking your hauling ship while you mine either. It's best to just have an alt/make friends.

For kicks ang giggle once I ejected from my orca swapped to my mining ship and mined while keeping orca targeted and filling it up.

But I don't mine so have fun finding me doing this.

Thanks for the info, was not really thinking that my other ship could be taken. stupid me, I just have never found a really good group to hook up with that were willing to teach me the best way to do EVE.

If youre going to do this, its usually a good idea to broadcast that youre doing it in local, or at least on the forums. That way people can keep an eye on it for you. Youd hate to have the ship disappear on you, as sometimes happens.

That's just mean.

Oh, I perfectly understand, Hal Morsh — a mission like this requires courage, skill, and heroism… qualities you are clearly lacking. Have you forgotten you're one of the bloody immortals!?

Usually, asking questions in the Newbie forum works pretty well, people there are quite happy to teach newbies how to EVE properly.

U.A.E. above is using sarcasm to point out to you that, now that you've posted here, people can track you. All we need is a character name, and there are "Locator" agents in-game that, if you pay them, will tell us your location. We can also add you to our contacts list in the People and Places window in-game, and that will give a little notification when you're online, and when you're offline.

So, basically, now that you've advertised that you're possibly leaving your ship unattended, it's very easy for anyone to find its location and find at what hours you may be mining, and come steal your ship.

There's also a group called "CODE" that is looking to extort you, or looking to destroy the relatively expensive mining ships by using much cheaper destroyer-class ships, and make a profit off the loot that's left in your ship wreck. They're also likely to track you, now. So, if you're mining in the Venture frigate, that's usually not worth the bother, but when you upgrade to the mining barges, pick the barge that has the most defenses, rather than the barge that's made of paper but has good mining. And train up Engineering and Shield skills, so you can put even more shield resistances and defenses on the barge, before you take it out for mining.

This game is PVP; people are looking to PVP, and they'll destroy ships even in high-sec, because that's what's fun in a PVP game. So keep that in mind, add defenses to your ships, and even try PVP yourself now and then, see what it's like.

I like mining, and I will tell you that mining is not the best way to Eve.

I have it on good authority that abandoned ships and drones in belts go rogue after a short period unless watched over. Would you really want the blood of innocent miners on your hands when your Iteron V turns feral and preys upon the belts? Or your mining drones turning to a life of crime or prostitution in order to survive because you left them to face the harsh universe all lone? Im telling you, when you see a mining drone I, dressed in fishnets and thigh-highs,on the station corner selling itself cheap so it can score its next high, or if you watch in horror as your best friend is held at gunpoint and robbed by a Kryos gang....

This **** happens man, and it aint pretty.

One does not buy, one rents, usually by the hour.

Im not gonna lie. That's exactly what popped in my mind when I just started. Here's what you do:

Dock up, switch ships, pickup ore, dump the ore, switch ships again, rinse repeat.

I then found a guy willing to be the hauler so I could simply mine. I split the ore 50/50 with him. When he wasn't online for a couple of days, I created a second character to be a dedicated hauler (this character in fact). Which I found to be the most preferable option for a solominer after the trialperiod.

Some free super useful advice while we're at it: I lost my hauler on the second day playing EVE (so well before I made this character): There is no such thing as free ore. People aren't mining to help out a n00b. Stick to your own can!

Anchoring secure container(s) near the belt is also possible. Once anchored, they can be password protected.

However, a container can't be anchored within 5 km of anything else. That can mean moving a fair distance from a belt.

One old trick is to bookmark the asteroid belt, and wait for it to be completely mined empty, then anchor the container where the belt will respawn next time.

Anchored containers must be accessed at least every 30 days, or they are removed.

Possible but not very useful, as the largest secure container has less ore capacity than a venture.

Make a safe spot, go mine, when hold is full go to safe spot and drop a can. Take note of the time. Mine for an hour, dropping cans at your safe spot. Go to station, get hauler ship, go to safe spot, get ore.

I once hijacked an orca that some clever dude left parked next to his retriever. I guess he thought orca gives boosts just by the magic of being next to him. I cured that misconception by adding said orca to my orcas collection :)

I once traded my covetor for a hulk at someone who did that orca trick. Back when they were the main mining ship.
