Militia Choice

Hi All,

I have noticed for a little while now that some militias seem to be more popular than others to join - even amongst those who have not experienced faction warfare yet.

I am noticing for example on these forums, the EVE Reddit and sources from EVE news sites that a lot of people consider joining Amarr militia. Some of the ex-corps of Spaceship Samurai recently nearly joined the Amarr apparently, plus other individual pilots post about it. Even one of the new corps in Minmatar Militia has said that their preference was to join Amarr militia but their standings were too low!

So what am I missing? What attracted you/your corp to join the militia you are in at the moment?

Myself I was torn between joining Caldari and Minmatar when I decided to do FW, as I like underdogs (plus I dislike religious lunatics (Amarr) and would have felt very un-english to join the 'french faction' as I thiught of it at the time (Gallente)). Ultimately I decided on Minmatar because they were doing worse than the Caldari at the time so I joined 'the most underdog' faction.

Id probably attribute it to human nature. People want to win, so they flock to the side on top. Nothing wrong with it, just makes it harder for the underdog side to come back. There arent many people willing to join a losing side and help build it up, but those that do should be treasured by the side getting them.

Myself, I joined calmil because the corp I'm in now seemed like a pretty decent place, and my faction standings at the time of joining pushed me more towards caldari and amarr.

There was no choice to make. I go where the corp goes. I've been with them since before they joined FW and I'll (probably) be with them after they leave.

When I started in 2012, The Minmatar had been at T4 for ages, and the Amarr where the underdogs in every sense.

The pendulum swings!

Caldari ships look the best, remind me more of American ships, Amarr are just shiny, I think they are overcompensating for something.

Amarrian ships are painted by matari slaves peeing on them whilst Minmatar ships are dipped in a septic tank.

I think the militias and there general overall cultures are always evolving and changing. I've been in 2 - the Amarr and the Caldari and both have had unique cultures. The thing you need to find is a good crew within the militia that you want to buzz the spaceplanes with. Eve ebbs and flows - and depending on the time period you may be on the winning side, at other times your getting beat upon. What you need is some fellow capsuleers that are willing to weather whatever storms are on the horizon and not embrace drama.

Finally, judge them based on getting in and drinking the cool aid - and let the propaganda be damned.

Mostly it has to do with the LP store. Certain Faction mods are more prevalent and useful then others as the meta shifts. Amarr have been at tier 4 for so long that their LP is soon crashing, so Minmatar will soon see an upswing, as the farmers flip back to their Minmatar alts. Preventing FW farmers from farming is the way to reach a more balanced system. Plus the Minmatar had an internal fail cascade that destroyed their player base about 6 months ago, before that they were top dog for a long time.

So that is why Amarr and Gallente is more popular right now, then people will join them.

My recent post on ending FW farming because it is a broken mechanic.

one factor in our case (the minmatar) could be the ships, many people dont like to fly minmatar ships and does not like projectiles that much. Another thing could be that amarr has a much stronger trade hub than we have in our trade hub Rens. We also have the lowest new players picking our faction, just by this reason might also be why less people join our side. When it comes to Nullsec Alliances they will almost always join Caldari//Amarr. This is just because Jita has such good prices that they can sustain their alliances just by buying from there.

Myself joined Minmatar because I liked the lore, the Minmatar ships and also by the fact that they were mostly underdogs when I started playing and I havent regretted my choice ever since. Smile

(Funny enough I made a gallente character because people on the forum said Minmatar was hard to fly in the beginning What?)

Trust in the rust.

One whose name I forgot has argued that the majority of people would prefer to roleplay a dumb, arrogant space tyrant rather than a freedom fighter, due to the contrast between that and their real personality.

There is that, and the reputation of some of the corporations in the opposing militia does not paint a good picture of skill and quality. this is why those who choose Amarr see it as the better choice - the higher-level, winning side. the Minmatar militia is the underdog due to the overall reputation. I guess this is what happens after your militia is viewed as not much more than an ISK printer for a relatively long period of time.

I prefer Minmatar due to semi-RP reasons and hope, but do not expect, to see it make a turn for the better.

also rust is coming back.

Now, my personal opinion about FW in general is that it needs to be more focused on warfare between players and less about orbiting some tiny structure for a while, pew at a rat for a lil bit, and receive bacon.

Mostly rp reasons, also wanted to try out pvp and when I joined amarr were the underdogs, but I doubt majority join fw for other reasons than to farm lp. When amarr were in the gutter everyone and their dog was joining minmatars same thing is happening now but for amarr.

The person who got me into the game had picked a Gallente character and was enrolled in Gallente faction war. So, naturally, when I joined the game even though I picked a Caldari character, I joined his corp in Gallente and have stayed ever since.

I didn't really join Gallente militia because of their position in the war. It was rather simple for me, I started as Gallente, I like drones, it didnt make sense from a roleplay stand point for my toon to not be Gallente, so I went with Gallente.
