Hello friends,

Announced just now on the o7 Show, we're pleased to finally launch a project that's been in the works since shortly after EVE Down Under last year.

Ariel Rin and myself have been working on www.evemeet.net a website to help improve discoverability of player gatherings.

In addition to the EVE Down Under main event, I had also been organising a lot of smaller, local player meetups around Australia for some time. One of the things that frustrated me was that you had to rely a lot on luck and timing to catch the right eyes. I wanted a way for people who were interested in meets to be notified automatically when an event happened near them rather than just hope those people decided to check the OOG Events and Gatherings forum on the Eve-O site at the right time.

So go ahead and check out the site - it's pretty straight forward:

  • You can browse upcoming meets on a map and see where to go find more information if there's one happening nearby.
  • If there isn't anything happening at the moment you can register and receive email notifications when a new event is created that you might be interested in.
  • And finally, if you're organising an event yourself you can add it to the site and anyone who has registered will be given a heads up so that you're more likely to find people to come along.

We hope evemeet.net will lead to a steady increase in the number of events and the number of players attending them! I have to give big props to Ariel Rin since he really did all the work after I gave him an outline of the idea and some field guidance.

If you have any comments or suggestions for how to improve the site please let us know. Other than that get out there and hang out with some spacefriends IRL!

[edit] Looks like the site got too much love and had a brief outage but it should be good now! Also, EVE Meet has a Twitter account if you'd like to follow it: http://twitter.com/eve_meet
