Wormhole Bug?

A new sig popped up, I scanned it down within 30 seconds, warped to it and watched it with a scout. Grabbed a pvp ship and warped to it. Upon attempting to enter it, I got the message 'This wormhole has collapsed' and it despawned in front of me. Show info proved it was indeed a fresh wormhole. Is this a bug or did someone ninja some caps through it? I scanned all around the hole attempting to check for cloakers, but I was on the hole watching it very quickly. It was a K162 to a nullsec.

Edit: Actually the show info showed no mass reduction and I watched it from that moment on, there were no wormhole fires. I definitely suspect this was a rogue/bugged wormhole?

You speak specifically about the mass of the hole, but not the age timer. This sounds like it was EOL and despawned in front of you. I've had this happen to my scanner many times and while rare it is not a bug.

If by "Show info proved it was indeed a fresh wormhole." you mean that it had the line "This wormhole has not yet begun it's natural ...." for the time line, then it's possible that you had a bug, but honestly there's usually an answer to these things.

tl;dr - You've been seeded by cloaky capitals. They're everywhere. Give up now.

Yeah, well, it's just like my opinion, man.

It was not EOL nor reduced in mass. It was a fresh signature.

Or it wasn't, but sure.
let me quote what I was advised last time I legit glitched out a wh and got stuck:

"whs are meant to be dangerous, bring probes."

Well seeing as how I was running sites when it popped open, I can definitively state that it was indeed a fresh signature. And having that the mass was not reduced upon placing eyes on it, there's no feasible way any cap could've passed through before I would have seen it. Further, the hole did not collapse until I had activated to jump through it.

It's a bug... things like this happen very, very rarely...

Had the same issue like two times within the last two years. Apperantly the description as well as the despawn mechanism sometimes gets screwed up.

Last time i had two chars in front of a freshly scanned wormhole. Jumped through it with a scout and that thing collapsed behind me. However on the other side the WH was still there. When i tried jumping, exactly the same thing that you described happened.

Wormhole space being buggy? Never...

But in all seriousness stuff like that happens. I've encountered far weirder bugs myself. Wormhole space is already chaotic and unexpected so a random bug or two doesn't bother me. Just makes it more exciting lol

was it shortly after DT? A EOL Wh incorrectly displays fresh until it has been loaded for a 2nd time. The same bug affects mass.

Not really, no. Probably 5 hours after DT. But it had just popped up, so it was fresh regardless of the show-info.

Happened to me a couple of times.
Sig appeared .. scanned and warped to. Info showed a fresh full mass wh, but it collapsed on trying to jump.
Also had wormholes not showing up on grid.
Seems to be getting ignored through petition, for whatever reason.

Did the sig despawn a few seconds after you loaded grid? Because I've seen this happen and I assumed that it was EOL and died on time between scanning and warping to it.

If there's another glitch where the sig stays but you can't truly warp to it, that'd be interesting.

As I remember the sig was there for a good amount of time. I re-warped, re-scanned and aligned - and it still was not on grid.

There was an exploit where you could jump rolling ships through a wormhole, and quickly logoff before your ship would pass through. Effectively rolling a connection without having to pass through the wormhole at all. This was because after hitting the jump button the mass was instantly taken off the wormhole.

It was changed 2-3 years ago, if memory serves. It now adds the mass once you've passed through. This can be observed when a wormhole goes stage x after your ship has left field, if requirements are met etc. You can compare with older videos of rolling wormholes, as seen in Clarion Call 3.

tl;dr, phantom WH or possible exploit. Smile

This has been seen before, and will be seen again. There are strange inconsistancies we all see, wormholes despawning, and respawning anew, to the same system, jumping through known holes and ending up **** knows where, jumping in a group and ending up in different wormholes. Jumping through and landing in the system you started from, dscan and overview in one hole, and being in the one you just left.
