Hauling a nice load of mixed ores back to my refining station last night and I get a pop up that says no more can be stored here. Why is there a limit on station storage and does your security rating change the max ammount you can store in a station?

As I recall,

You can have a maximum of 1000 stacks in a hanger, unless this has been increased recently.

Solution - get station containers, each of which have a limit of 1000 stacks.

So the limit for a hanger is 1000 containers times 1000 stacks = 1,000,000 stacks.

There's no limit that I know of to how many items in one stack (other than they all have to be repackaged and they all have to be the same item).

Another solution is to have another hanger in a nearby station.

Geeze 1k stacks of stuff is not enough room???? Ever think of selling things instead of pileing them up? BTW there are limits on stations based on where it is and who owns it as well with high sec having the largest storage (infinite I believe with the stack limit) and POS having the least.

have you ever ran missions and manufactured and did exploration and PI out of the same home station?

Like others said working one 1k+ you are pushing your limits :(

(which imo sucks, bc there are far more than 1k different items that want to reside in one's hangar...)

Nope but then I also don't live where there is just one station within a few jumps. In fact I have my mining/PI station, missioning/MFG station a few jumps apart. I even have some of what I call outpost stations I use for simply ratting/PVP corp ops base and the little exploration I do when bored of the other things. Those outpost stations have a jump clone waiting for me. I don't keep all my eggs in one basket as it were simply because not every station is situated at the right spot for the activity I want to do at that time. Yes it means performing some logistics from time to time but that too is part of EVE.
