So Alien is my favourite film of all time, has been since I was 6. So naturally I was excited about Prometheus when it was first announced... but when it became heavily hinted at not being a prequel to Alien after all I almost forgot about it...

However, that was until this trailer.Big smile

Compare it with the original Alien trailer.

I'm moist.

I saw it today and was going to make a thread about it.

I loved the similarity to the first Trailer.

I new the movie title when I clinked the link on the Youtube main page but I was still surprised because I unconsciously thought it would spell out Alien.

I hope it is good like Alien 1 and 2 and not the franchise Bleach that followed.

Mmmmm, Alien and Aliens are my favorite movies. I can't wait for this "prequel" to it.

Too bad there weren't any sequels to Aliens though.

Don't fear, Lucas was only good at making the Star Wars universe, but he's a terrible director, always has been. He had the most creative control over a New Hope, the weakest of the original films, and complete control over the prequels.
The reason why The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi are so awesome is because back then people weren't afraid to tell him when his ideas were dumb... If he said 'Jar Jar Binks' in the 80's someone would have slapped him across the face Big smile

Don't get me wrong I love Star Wars and the guy did develop the universe, but he should never be in complete control of a film. Ever read the novelizations he made for the Star Wars films? Twilight reads better.

I have a good feeling about Prometheus, I enjoy a lot of Ridley Scott's film, I mean the man made Alien and Blade Runner, if there is anyone I'd be willing to give a chance to make a prequel, it's him. Besides... can't be any worse than Alien 4... *Shudder*

I required a change of pants when I first saw the trailer. Honestly wasn't expecting this film to see the light of day, but a film this awesome can't be denied that. Puts me in the mood to see Alien and Aliens, the only true Alien flicks, again.

Can't wait to see what they do in regards to the Space Jockeys.

A friend of mine raised a very good question lately: why almost all S-F movies with space ships have to be horrors or "horrory" thrillers? I'm with him on this. I though we were over with this "space is a spooky place" thing in movies and novels. Where are the epic battles between OMFG-it-is-huge ships? Where are cyberpunk corps and deckers/hackers doing stupid things for money? All we have now is Michael Bay Syndrome and Alien Invasions. I really hoped that Sunshine won't be another thriller... Although it was (and still is) a very good film.
I'm waiting for "Ender's Game".

The fast cuts, and the fade to blacks that punctuate the whole trailer, they are making my brain stutter What? ... but then, that's the norm with trailers these days.

As much as I enjoyed the original Alien, and H.R. Giger's art and sense of aesthetics (which they are still using on some elements on that trailer), I'm fearing this is going to be yet another big-asplosions spastic-camera action-driven annoying borefest for meth-heads, like so many other disappointments in recent years.

F*ck you Michael Bay.

Look at the original Alien trailer from 1979, it's done the exact same way, the new trailer even uses the same electronic scream from the original. It's a homage.

Not sure where all this Michael Bay stuff is coming from either, Alien was made by Ridley Scott, Prometheus is being made by Ridley Scott. The closest he got to making big-asplosions spastic-camera action-driven annoying borefest for meth-heads was Black Hawk Down... but considering most of his films range from Blade Runner to Gladiator... it'll have substance.

Yes, it's a homage, but turning the annoyance dial up to 11.

Made by the same director indeed, but 30 years apart, and in the context of a movie industry where the clear trend is going for the big-asplosions spastic-camera action-driven annoying borefest for meth-heads whenever in doubt. While watching the final parts of the Prometheus trailer, Transformers sprung immediately to mind.

Blade Runner is hands down one of my all-time favourite movies, made at a time when things such as slowly crafting a certain special mood and atmosphere were primed in making Sci-Fi movies (which the recent "Moon" harkens back to). I would indeed be ecstatic if Prometheus turns out be anything like that, but watching that trailer - and considering the current general trends in Hollywood movie-making, particulary when it comes to sci-fi - it doubt so. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

I liked Avatar Sad

Can't wait for the sequel... should be directed by Michael Bay as no one can do a planet-wide orbital bombardment like Bay Big smile

HD Trailer here - for those that know YouTube quality is so wrong for trailers of this magnitude.

Ridley knows his stuff. He's coming back to tell the missing part of the bigger story.

This will not suck - it'll scare the living **** out of you.

It's a bold call, and I'm calling it.

wtf?

Surely 'Jedi was? It had cute and cuddly bears in it...you can't be telling me that Jedi was better than New Hope?

Empire was the best, but had the whole setup and pay-off from the first film about Luke being the son of Vader - so one persons point of view could be that; the whole pay-off only had meaning because of the strengths of the first film.

The other thing to consider is that New Hope is probably the only film that you can watch without any comprehension of the other films. It stands out as a singular plot and character arc for Luke, that anyone can watch and enjoy as a classic Heroes Journey three-part page-turner excellently-executed movie.

Empire needed the first film, regardless of how good it was and Jedi was the natural conclusion to the parts - which all began with New Hope.

Happy to debate this 'till the cows come home...but you'll be hard pressed to give me a solid reason why Jedi was better than New Hope.

We are living in the dark ages of cinema making.

Never has the technology been so good, but never has there been an utter lack of creativity, originality or thought provoking content in modern movies today. Everything is either a remake or a sequel done to the nth degree or a prequel of sorts.

I havent seen a good movie in ages and not for a lack of trying.

Btw its not a prequel

Not in any direct sense, its a film based in same universe that will explore new "themes", and wont feature Xenos, at all. I'm looking forward to it, but fact it has pretty much nothing to do with Xenos but is goin off in a new unrelated (apart from the Space Jockey) direction means the prequel all us Alien fans wanted is never going to happen =(

Could still be good......but I dont see point in basing it in same world if its really not adding to it, hes said in interviews hes exploring the origin of mankind, so the Space Jockeys apparently have something to do with our evolution. But you could of kept this story and placed it in an entirely seperate universe and come back to an Alien prequel later, so whats the point apart from an arbitrary link to promote the movie.

Blehh I just wanted one more decent Alien movie!!! but yea bring on Prometheus anyway I'm sure it'll be entertaining at least
