If theres a big difference, how fast could YOU go from -1.50 to 5 ??

Two words (if you can use them with your standings, but I have a feeling you can't): Data centres.

Standings gains are expressed as a percentage. Each L3 distribution mission completed might give you, say, 0.2% standings gain. That percentage is a portion of the difference between whatever your standings are now, and +10.0.

Thus if your standings are -1.0, that 0.2% standings will award you an absolute standings gain of (2/100 * 11) or about 0.022. If your standings are 4.0, you will get a (2/100 * 6) or about 0.012. Thus as your standings get closer to 5.0, your absolute standings gains will slow down.

One can look at this mathematically: a standings gain of 0.2% is the same as reducing the distance from 10.0 by 99.8%. If you run six missions back to back, you will gain the cumulative bonus of initial standings S + (10-S) * 99.8% * 99.8% * 99.8% * 99.8% * 99.8% * 99.8%, which can also be expressed as S * 99.8%^6. Thus:

S + (10-S) * (1 - 99.8% ^ N) = 5.0

Where N is the number of missions, S is the initial standings.

Which puts N somewhere around 400 given S =-1.2 (though this does not take into account storyline missions).

Good luck!

wow, thanks for making feel dumb ;p
I wish I could like you more than one time on that post, thank you so much for such a detailed explanation.

I can have an idea of how many missions I will need now.

I already posted the fastest way to gain Faction standing in your other thread.

Seriously, if you work the 'Plan' you can get to +5.00 standing with a specific Faction within a few days to a week max, depending on how much time you spend in-game.

DMC's Faction Standing Repair Plan will get your standings up to respectable levels in far, far fewer than 400 missions.

(and I'm crying myself to sleep because I can't remember how to solve that simple equation for N)

Thank you guys, you're the best :)

I will follow your guide DeMichael and let you know how long it took me, how about that? :p

Starting tomorrow from a -1.5 minmatar, going for 5.

To solve for N, I need to be able to express this as X ^ N = K, at which point I can simplify to log(X^N) = log(K), which simplifies to N x log(X) = log(K), which means that N = log(K) / log(X).

I'll show my working here because I'm tired and bored, and hopefully someone with a bigger brain can help me out.

S + (10-S) x (1 - 99.8% ^ N) = 5.0

(10-S) x (1 - 99.8% ^ N) = 5.0 -S … (-S)

1 - 99.8% ^ N = (5.0 - S) / (10-S) … (/(10-S))

- 99.8% ^ N = (5.0 - S) / (10-S) - 1 … (-1)

99.8% ^ N = 1 - (5.0 - S) / (10-S) … ( x -1)

log(99.8% ^ N) = log(1 - (5.0 - S) / (10-S)) …(log)

N = log(1 - (5-S)/(10-S)) / log( 0.002)

Where S is (-1.5)

N = log(0.588) / log(0.002)

… which leads to N = 11.7

… which means I obviously fail at math. Calculating by hand, I have to set N to approx 403 to satisfy for S=1.5.

I have this in my spreadsheet:
=-1.2 + (10+1.2) * (1-POWER(99.8/100,A2))

and setting A2 to 403 gives me about 5.0

Oh waitaminute. That's 0.998, not 1-0.998, and I have 1.2 instead of 1.5. I really am one of the walking dead aren't I?

So adjust spreadsheet:

=-1.5 + (10+1.5) * (1-POWER(99.8/100,A2))

And adjust formula:

N = log(1 - (5+1.5)/(10+1.5)) / log( 0.998)

And there we go: N ≈ 416. Entering 416 into A2 of the spreadsheet will give us the value 4.996 in the calculation cell.

Okay, I've fat-brained my way to a solution that looks like it works:

N = ceiling( log(1 - (F-S)/(10-S))/log(1-M) )

N is number of missions to run
S is starting standings
F is desired standings (i.e.: finishing standings)
M is standings gain from repeatable activity, expressed as a decimal percentage (e.g.: 0.2% -> 0.002)

A totally useless formula, but I had fun 'cos I don't normally deal with exponential equations and had to dig out my mathematics notes to remember how to solve exponential equations.

Same, was -6.0 with Amarr (with Diplomacy V) and did all the L1 Datacenter Agents in a shuttle, dropped down to -4.76 and thus no KOS anymore.

You can also do the allied race's Datacenters for the derived standings too. Also, train your Social skills if not done already.

Yeah, we're like that.
