Saying "oh, you just scout the route and you're fine". Never mind that requiring a buddy or an alt (so suddenly hauling is a two man job?), who in their right mind would ever want to waste an evening on getting a freighter 15 jumps to Jita? If I wanted to do something extremely boring and suicide inducing I would continue studying for the rest of the day.

I can confirm first hand that the guide above does not work, since if you are getting bumped you are probably targeted and that prevents you from logging safely.

So after finally subbing my account after 1 year of inactivity, I lost my beloved freighter after 2 days and now realize I can no longer conduct my trading as I have done since I started playing this game. This seems as an extremely dumb mechanic, as I now need to sub another account just for scouting&webbing.

CCP once again managed to come up with a mechanic that ruins the game for all those who don't want to pvp, and once again reaffirmed the notion that Iceland should do us all a favor and get swallowed up by the ocean.

Freighters have fitting options now, if you choose to not fit for EHP tank you choose to be more of a target. Everyone has to make comprises when it comes to fitting ships: a mission runner can't just only fit dps, he has to fit tank. Normal pvp ships can't only fit for dps, he has to fit tank and tackle. Mining ships can't just only fit for yield, they also have to fit tank (but generally don't, and thus end up crying). And the same goes for haulers, you can't just only go for cargo and/or speed, you HAVE to fit tank.

In your specific case you left when freighters did not have fitting choices and came back when they "suddenly" did so for you it's pretty much bad luck.

But normally the above really is the crux of the problem: people not willing (or even contemplating) to move away from max performance to allow for increased safety which then, inevitably, goes sour. The difference between a "proper" EVE player and a carebear is their reaction to a situation like this. Throwing your toys out of the pram isn't helping anyone but folks like us, giggling at the rage. Instead just take a deep breath, dust yourself off, analyse why and how it went wrong and adapt.

Get some sand and start building another castle.

p.s. you were moving plex.... Lets just say that of all the dumb things to do in EVE that's pretty much near the top of the list.

Now, I didnt test it myself, but dev blogs here state that safe log off is not possible if, among other things, ' You have a target lock or are targeted'.

Eddie, you were carrying a PLEX as well as an additional 1bil+ in loot and you were not ganked. Roll
Not sure how you got yourself killed by a single Logi ship but there is something you are not telling us...

But yes, if you want to move a bil isk ship that is carrying a bil+ in cargo and you have no way of defending yourself, then you should have some sort of escort.

Well back in my day it would take a fleet of battleships to take down a freighter, so I could easily transport 1-1,5bil worth of stuff without getting ganked. This time I suddenly found myself being bumped out of range of the gate, unable to align and very surprisingly for me - unable to log out. I don't know who came up with that brilliant idea, but that person should be gently but firmly dumped into a volcano.

There is a lie in your story, you were not ganked. Until you tell us what really happened anything else you say is irrelevant.

Don't most gankers just aggress the target in a noobship immediately anyway to prevent this?

A. Single logi on mail - NOT a gank, something else happened..

B. He was transporting PLEX - sorry but by that you made yourself a target and were dumb enough to undock..

Together, he got what he deserved.
