Retriever Fitting

I have been mining for a while and now am trying to fit 3 mining laser upgrades onto my retriever, however I do not have enough CPU to do that. I am currently using 2 Strip miner II's, a Survey Scanner II and 3 mining laser upgrade I's. What can I do to improve the situation? Is it possible to fit onto my retriever? I have CPU management IV as well.

Thank you!

The Mining Upgrades skill will further reduce the cpu required for the MLUs.

That being said, fitting your barge for max yield makes it very vulnerable. Keep that in mind.

You'll need to get mining upgrades to V for that to work. Does it fit without the scanner?

And yeah, keep in mind: Max yeild means max killability.

All ships are limited by CPU and power grid like that. It's the way the game is designed.

It's why people train CPU Management to 5, and Power Grid Management to 5 also; the only skills that directly increase CPU or powergrid, and you'll run into this issue a lot with all other ships.

To fix right now, remove the mining laser upgrades, one at a time, they make your lasers take up much more CPU than normal. Replace them with Co-Processor in low slots.

OP, what you want to do is put on the rig that increases your max CPU. Something something overclocking unit? Not too sure of the name. it will solve your issue.

@OP
I expect to see you appearing on a killboard soon.

It's never a good idea to advertise that you're flying a completely untanked ship; you never know who's reading. There's at least 3 posters in this thread that would be inclined to teach you an explosive lesson on why it's a bad idea to use an untanked ship and an even worse idea to publicise it Pirate

Unless you're willing to treat the loss of your Retriever as a business expense, fit a Damage Control of some description in one of the low slots instead of a Mining Laser Upgrade.

Alternatively, use a Procurer; similar price, 3+ times the tank and pretty much the same yield if you fit it right; downside, 1/2 the ore hold thus more time spent warping to unload.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

OP.

The forums are a part of PVP in this game, and people look through them for intel on people worth attacking.

You get a second chance because this is New Citizens Q&A, and I believe in fattening up the prey prior to slaughter, but be warned - mining max yield is dangerous, and there are lots of bad people (like me) out there who read posts like this.

If you do lose a ship to a gank, pay attention to who sells you the replacement. I may or may not be involved in that market.

To explain why you're getting warned:

- Sabriz or anyone can add your name to her contacts list, and she will know when you're online and when you're offline.

- Anyone can submit your name to a Locator agent and find out where you are in-game.

- Your ship is worth how much?

- The fitting screen for your ship show how many total hitpoints?

- It takes a couple destroyers to kill you in one shot in high sec, and destroyers are CHEAP ships. Just the loot from your ship will pay for replacement destroyers, and lots of extra profit.

- How long would you have to mine to make up the cost of buying a new ship once it's destroyed?

Don't post the answers, just think about them.

As Alirna said, a CPU rig will allow you to fit it.

As everyone else said, flying a max yield Retriever is risky. It's profitable to kill you, even in high-sec where the attacker will lose his ship.
A procurer has similar yield only a smaller ore hold. But it's almost gank-proof. (Almost, because every ship can be ganked, but it's quite expensive to kill a Procurer, so unless you really **** someone off, they'll look for easier targets.)

That being said, I personally believe that if you pay attention to local and d-scan, you should be able to limit ship losses and end up making more ISK with a yield-fit Retriever. I.e. the extra money made from less round trips to the station should pay for your losses. (And you will lose ships.) But that will of course depend on how often ganks happen in your region and how good you are at predicting and avoiding them. And then you have to count the time lost running from gankers as a "loss", while you could just have kept mining in a Procurer.

OTOH, if you like that kind of excitement, maybe you should do something else than mining Blink
The rare times I mine, it's to relax, for which a Procurer is much better.

Mining barges and exhumers are more constrained than other ships in their weight/size classes.
