I dropped idea to pay for the game by PLEX on my 1st or 2nd week. Calculated that i need to make like 10 million ISK every day to buy PLEX for next month. And it was normal for me to make like 1-2 million per day doing missions (i think i got to lvl2 by that moment).
So i just opened account management and checked the prices. Found that paying for 12 month will make it very cheap (and in 2010 i have like 1/2 of my current salary).
Payed once or twice by PLEX since then just because it was more convenient that use RL money.

On the other hand i knew family pair who did mine for days just to buy PLEX. They just 'couldn't afford paying with real money'. They used to mine almost WHOLE day. He mines from morning to the time he leaves to work. She mines till evening when he back. THen he mines till night..... That was and is crazy for me! Shocked

C320 is atm 71mil isks per hour,.. on a venture.

I have no idea what youre talking about, if 10 hours a month of mining to plex an account is too much for you then perhaps you should just stop playing video games altogether.

One of the things that attracted me to the game was the idea of playing the game to pay for the game. I can afford the sub no problem but I felt it was a good goal to aim for. I figured out it was not going to work in a venture mining rocks rather early on. It does not mean I did not have fun trying.

For someone who is not pvp oriented, mining is a good way to make isk and learn about the game at the same time. I would mine my scordite and read about other things I could be getting into.

I don't mine much any more. I took that learning period and was able to do something else. Still I have not paid real money for the game since my second month in.

You can realistically make about 30M ISK/hr doing exploration in lowsec, and it's much more entertaining than running missions. You'll also get to say hello to some of the more interesting personalities in the game :)

On my alt I got a mining barge (retriever). My idea was to get some income while afking and therefore the high ore capacity was a very important factor.

However, I think mining is not worth the effort, even for semi afking. Personally I like it, that afk aktivities actually require active activity^^

If you want to afk stuff, its probably better to do anomalies in a gila rather than mining. (at least it was the better "effort to income" ratio)
Having to reallocate the mining laser makes mining not a very good afk activity imo.

My low skill retrriever would get filled in ~30 min(~24000m³, worth ~4 mio?) For every load of cargo Id have to re assign asteroids ~4x. Too much interruption.

As I said: I think preventing full afk activities is a good thing but what we might conclude is, that its a very bad advice to a new player to make money by mining.

1, its boring
2, the income is actually not that great, even for afk
3, there are other low effort activities. (Id advise: afk high sec anomalies and PI industry)
4, better play the game active

Mining is only a good way to learn about the game if you get ganked while doing it. :)
