EVE ethics and metagaming - my dissertation - survey responses needed!

Tbf to the OP he's an undergrad and your dissertation is meant to be a learning process. Lay off a bit. I'm prepping my dissertation proposal atm, and it's not easy :P If he's a regular student you're slapping someone 3 years out of sixth form. It's always worth keeping in mind, especially since some of you have kids that age. No offense OP, but there have been postgrad surveys put up which look like they were drafted by a drooling 3 year old, and yours isn't that bad by comparison.

Some of the questions looked a bit iffy and fall into some of the more obvious 'griefer' bias traps, but without a degree in EvE it's hard to create a really comprehensive survey. All players have biases. It's more worrying to see a teenager post an encyclopedic knowledge of EvE then utterly **** up their survey at write up. Even worse when they demonstrate massive social incompetence and can't respond appropriately to critique.

Carry on anyway, sorry for mumying you OP but my fellow students are all quite daft and I'm not allowed to push them in the lake or clip em round the ear Pirate

Here you have a real conclusion that you can take away from all this.

It is the absence, not of personal consequence (conscience), but of authority, that allows predatory behavior to flourish in EVE Online. Other MMOs have severely restricted predatory activity to PvP combat, but here no such restrictions exist. And since EVE is only a game, it is no wonder that criminality is both rampant and even respected.

I personally think this is wonderful. EVE is a dangerous place, sometimes because of me, and sometimes because of others. This paradigm adds depth. It colors the environment. It makes this game, and us, different.

Hey guys, data collection ends today. I'd love to make one last push before the survey comes down - I've had just under two thousand responses from players. This has been overwhelmingly well received so far and I can't wait to have a look at what the data says!

It's possible, but provided it was real data and not an attempt to break it for the sake of breaking it with random non-entries that'd be fine :p Though I would urge people to remember this is a real assignment, and how people respond to this questionnaire will affect my life - my degree depends on the successful completion of my dissertation.

I did the test while ago and it promted some ideals/values i apperantly had in eve. I was not aware that i had any Lol

I thought it was a good survey, especially the values/morals statements to agree or disagree with at the end. Hope you link the survey results when they're all compiled, OP.
