I have never installed this skill and i am finally thinking about using it to leverage my isk. I was hoping some of you could share successful ways to use it. I worried a lot of my orders might not fill because of a lack of funds in my wallet if i spread it too thin. What do you suggest, lots of low priced items? Leave a specific % in my wallet? Make sure i have sell orders to cover any margin skill buy orders before posting them? I have never had to cover any extra funds in escrow and this will all be new to me. What should i expect?

I have it at lvl V and its the best trading skill I've trained, apart from the number of active orders skills. Right now I have available about 25% of the funds required, the thing is my orders never fill at the same time, so the quarter I have available is enough to keep the profit coming, while being present at many more areas. I've been trading for about an year and so far I've only failed one order due to happy hour of orders fulfillment. Big smile
As long as you trade at the bottom/top of the price swings and not reselling immediately you'll be fine. My advise is - don't get too low on funds, sometimes you'll find a lucrative deal and keep on setting buy orders, but at some point you have to stop if you don't wanna risk failing 'em. I try not to drop below 15-20% of the total buy orders's sum (excluding the cash already in escrow).

Once you have it working you never think about it again. Keep enough isk liquid in wallet (i.e. don't set up orders that would crash your wallet) and just let the buy and sell orders do their mojo.

i have a whole lot of region wide buy orders for :stuff: that don't often get fullfilled, they actually run out more often than getting filled. i have billions in escrow and even more additional billions to cover, but all i keep in the wallet is 1-2b, and i only need maybe 500m per week. i make several hundred million from that per month, and i literally log in the character with the orders once per week to set up courier contracts and once per month to do a ~30ish jumps tour to replace orders that ran out or were fullfilled.

i couldn't do that without Margin Trading V

I have up lowball buy orders for a few very high demand items. Every now and again, someone takes a massive dump onto the market with one of them.

As an example, I know that most datacores never fall under 85k. I often will put up a buy order for 2000-5000 of a datacore at 85k. Eventually, along comes someone leaving Factional Warfare that sells 10000 of that datacore and my order fills in full. Because of MT4, I only had a third of the capital tied up that I'd have with MT untrained.

I support the New Order and CODE. alliance. www.minerbumping.com

If your orders are spread wide across many, you don't need to worry about many if any failing. It will even out, and as Sabriz said, sometimes you will get lucky and be glad you had some large, cheap buy orders up. Margin trained up also allows you to put buy orders you normally wouldn't want to tie the isk up in escrow. For example, you might not normally tie up isk in buy orders for freighters, but if you find that you can be the top region buy for half price, you might decide to commit 100m escrow or so just in case.

While the escrow is lower, it will pull extra isk as needed from your wallet. Only if you run out of escrow funds and isk in wallet will an order fail.
