Ok, total newb here. Just a trial one year ago, and now i haven´t still reached my first complete month, so probably i´m saying something stupid but here it goes.

I´m giving a try to exploring and this weekend in one of my WH spottings from hi sec i said myself "To hell, Im crossing that wormhole and see what´s all that WH issue" I fitted a venture (lol) with a probe launcher, relic and data analyzers and suddenly I got in an uncharted -1.0 system. I probed a bit and i found an unguarded data site. I was only capable to hack one structure, wich yielded a skillbook 10Mill worth. Not bad for a beginner!

I went back throug the wh with my stuff and I tried to give it a more dedicated approach. I have been solo exploring wormholes about 5 hours this weekend and here are the results: In all I lost three Herons ( T1 very basic fitted, no cloaking, about 750k each ) One of them totally avoidable in a guarded site wich i even didn´t knew that could exist ( now if the site is guarded i just warp out ) I was podded once wich costed me about 1mill in cheap implants, I got loot worth 40mill and i got a shitload of fun.

The thing is, when looking for some more professional info, I see that what i did is considered a total foolness: No cloaking devices, absolut lack of care, using T1 technology in -1.0... But in the end i had a revenue of 12 times the money invested and a had a lot of fun.

Did i just had a lot of luck, or Is this "suicide newb wh extreme exploring" something viable?

That right there makes it worthwhile, whether you got more ISK than you lost or not. If you are enjoying doing it and it pays the bills - keep doing it! Not everyone has to make the absolute most ISK/hr that they can to enjoy the game like everyone seems to think. If you can afford to continue doing the things that you enjoy doing then you are making enough ISK.

It is very much viable.
In class 1-3 wormhole systems you can find quite a few data/relic sites that are unguarded.
Look for the ones that have a pirate faction in their name (guristas, angels, sansha, etc.)... those are the unguarded ones. The other ones all have sleepers in them.

Oh and: welcome to w-space. :-)

keep good work. this is how i started wormhole exploding. lived in 6 diferent wormholes for some time and died alot of times but still made more isk than lost to wormhole content (gankers, sleepers)

good is to have 1 uncloaked heron and 1 cloaked at entrance to hear any wobble sound , then is time to hide.
also scan distant systes with 1 stargate these systems sometimes have couple of wormholes to explore here are examples where i do scan - hanan , shumam , oirtlair , dakba , malpara dehrokh satalama . basically go to systems that have lowest jump per hour ratio. more chance for better contentand wormholes also wormholes like to spawn very frequent in rookie systems where are career agents theres always usually 1 - 3 holes. once have got 9 wormholes in one system which made me very satisfacted .

edit try to hook up in abandoned wormholes with lowsec static , less hostiles will shoot you so you can farm more sites

People get a bit ahead of themselves when it comes to min/maxing. They'll say it ain't worth it. When all they really mean is it wasn't fun for them. A data site in a wormhole usually isn't worth it because the hacked cans drop crap.

But for a new person, it's great. No sh-ts given, having some fun.

Is cloaking required in wormhole space, yes.

For what you just did? Nope.

If you want some other promising fun, try the frig sized shattered wormholes. Usually lots of sites.

Yaay!!!!

lots of sites? i crossed a c3 shattered and there was 107 signatures to scan. someone could be busy for long while.

It's viable - but only because you use such a cheap setup. Had you used cov ops ships you might have died less but still would have lost more than you earned.

I'm still anoob myself but I think that a Heron doesn't really need a cloak for what you are doing. You can't fit a cov ops, so you can't warp cloaked. You cant cloak while hacking cans. So the only benefit of a cloak would be to stay invisible while scanning the system. In these situations your probes will give away your presence anyway. If you stay at a safespot noone will find you without dropping combat probes first. So regular d-scanning will warn you beforehand. So it's a cheap and easy way to experience wh-life.

Also don't disregard the venture. Spend some time and money on gas mining skills and you will make decent money by ninja huffing. You will have about 20 minutes before the sleepers are spawned in gas and ore sites.

Cant endorse this enough. I've often went hours with no real good results. No money made. However I had fun exploring, probing, seing the different elements of WH space.

What alot of people do. espeically newbies is skill into an Astero which is roughly 80-90mil alone and end up losing it. Practice in the cheap ships first, find your groove and potentially invest more in your equipment.

But as others stated. Cloaking is a must - Covert Ops cloaking is highly recommended however requires specific ships.

You were lucky! But it sure is a blast isn't it? Lots of good advice here, especially about getting cloaky ASAP.

Have fun!

hehe, my first ever jump into a wormhole, an about day 2 of my EVE life, in a similar setup to yours, yielded me around 40m ISK in loot and stuffs.

My next five wormhole adventures had me waking up in a station after being lol-podded. regardless, I was still over 30m ISK ahead.

Dude, that constant feeling of "I shouldn´t be here and I KNOW it" is really nice :D

Next time i will try a cheap cloaking device I have already trained the basic skill and read some guide; when i die only in 1 of 10 runs I can try a cov ops…
