EVE-Spec PC Build recomendations?

HI,

Looking for advice for an EVE-Build pc. I know how to build a PC, just not sure on which are the best parts for the job. Don’t wanna spend too much and go overkill – but equally don’t wanna spend to little and get stuck with something not powerful enough and not upgradable.

I’d like the PC to be able to run 3-4 accounts, at quality optimal, and not drag in normal use. Besides that, just normal Office 10 and browsing. No other hi-spec gaming.

Can anyone recommend combinations of m-Boards, CPU, quantity of RAM, cases, and power units that are good? Would probably like to include a dvd or bluray writer so a few connectors.

Any links and suggestions please? Brands to go for, and avoid maybe? Aiming somewhere imbetween 500-1000 for the entire build (including the stuff not mentioned above).

I like to replace case fans with Arctic case fans ($7 apiece) because they are super-quiet.

Don't forget keyboard, mouse, screen... and good thermal paste for installing that CPU heatsink.

For more than 2 monitors you'll probably have to get 2 graphics cards and SLI them.

I'm running 3 accounts with an I5 3450, geforce GTX 770 and 16gb. Everything is maxed.

Are you playing only Eve? If not, maybe you should spend a little bit more to be safe for the next 2-3 years.

A lot of the modern ones (for example, any Nvidia GTX 600+ ...don't go for the cheapo PNY ones!) can support up to the number of outputs they have for monitors. Unfortunately my 460 doesn't support all 3...

I used to run 8 accounts on a E8200 core2duo, 4gb, radeon4600series.. and still be able to watch youtube vids off the net.

So maybe get an energy efficient build like:
i3-4160
nvdia 750Ti
2x 4gb ddr3

A recently concluded System Builder Marathon down at Tom's Hardware has a budget build that you might like, check it out:

Build what ever setup you want. That site will not only tell you if a part is not compatible with others in the build, it will give you listings of best prices with coupon codes too. It'll even show you bundle deals if 2 or more of your parts are on sale at like tigerdirect or newegg.

That is my favorite site to use. My last two builds I used that site. It's like the Pyfa/EFT/Osmium of computer building.

I can run 10 accounts on an e7200 with 8 GB ddr3 and a hd 5770 on low settings.... Any decent gaming machine built in the last 7 years should easily run eve. Any well built gaming machine in the last 10 years should be able to run it fine.

Running 8 accounts on 4 GB of ram results in a LOT of usage of your pagefile. You'll probably kill the hard drive your page file is on after a year or so. I used to run 11 clients on the e7200 with 4 GB of ram while using isboxer's resource management options. The old (160 GB ATA 100 from long ago) hard drive I was using as a page file ended up dying after about 10 months of that abuse.

A build for 500 is a world of a difference from a build for 1000 btw. For 1000 you're looking at ddr4 and intel but for 500 you're probably going to be stuck with ddr3 and AMD. Needs such as monitors keyboard etc will of course change that.

I keep seeing that posted all over the place, and ill admit that it made me smile, but it doesn't change my mind about the 970. Ive had it (EVGA GTX970 FTW+) for awhile now and used it to replace my GTX660ti (also a fantastic card btw), and ive never had any problems with it aside from a bad driver that NVidia pushed out (but that was easily handled with a rollback). Its been great and I regularly use it to run 2 accounts on high with no issues.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

The 970 is a fantastic card for the money. If the rest of your system is so hardcore that you need that last 500mb of video ram then you're clearly looking at the wrong card anyway.

If you are a penny pincher it could be argued the 970 is overkill for Eve, I am running a 660 and it runs 4 accounts all on high just fine.

It's not even an argument. The 970 is way overkill. You can run 4 accounts on high at 1080 with a card half the price.
