Any way for a solo pilot in destroyer to avoid gate camps ?

Pretty simple really. I fly solo 99% of the time. I've started screwing around in destroyers. Problem is they are to fragile to burn back to gate if you jump into a gate camp and they don't align fast enough to get the hell out before you get locked. I fly frigates for these very reasons. Is there any way to move around low sec in a destroyer other than playing russian roulette every time you undock ?

And Solo means no scouting alts.

Other than using the starmap stats to avoid potential camps, fitting a cloak and utilizing the mwd+cloak trick can be done, though you'd be gimping your scan res and tank or tackle.

Unfortunately, the above is correct.

A competent gatecamp will catch a destroyer almost every time, so you're looking at intel to avoid them or gimping your fit in order to escape.

I encounter the same problem constantly with any ship bigger than a frig.

If you jump to gate camp, find target that is fragile, expensive and close enough, gank that fast and die.

If there there is no such target, just die !

well arty thrasher with mwd and MSE can survive some camps and return to gate .... usually there is small ship jumping with u as big fats are agressed ... so burn away and alpha the small tackler ... lot of tears and one dead tackler ;)

Hard in null though ... but works in low or wdeck environment.

Cloak+MWD almost 99% safe.

Against a "proper" gatecamp, with instalock recon or t3 tackle., you are dead unless you use mwd+cloak. This is true for pretty much every solo ship. Against more ad-hoc camps, such as jumping into a roaming gang, you could probably overheat mwd and burn out of point range. Be careful to keep transversal up if it looks like they have artillery ships.

Presumably the op is fitting an mwd? Heat and burn-back can obviously work depending in the camp composition. If you are trying it with an AB then consider that.

Yeah I do run a Mwd. Problem is armor destroyers are pretty squishy (400mm + dc + sar) - so if you mwd they normally pop you before making it back to the gate.

Oh well guess I'll just suck it up.

As others have mentioned, one possibility might be burning out of range of the tacklers with an overheated mwd before simply warping off. Your destroyer is probably faster than anything that can tackle safely on a gate. The few things that can keep up (in the absence of gate guns) are probably ships you can smash pretty quickly.

I've not tried this in a destroyer, per se, but it's pretty much just a question of geometry. Is the gate closer or further away than the distance you will need to travel to escape point range? Keep in mind that an alert tackler will try and keep up when he sees what you are doing - although this is rarer than you might think. The tactical overlay is enormously helpful when considering this question.

Why are we trying to solo in a ship that consistently gets 2 or 3 shotted? just curious...

I didn't realise you were fitting a 400 plate. Obviously that's problematic in the camps you are encountering. I either DC only or DC and rep mine. Nothing more. If you encounter these camps a lot you might want to reconsider your fit a little. I'm not trying to tell you what to do of course!
Late edit... Of course I mean to say even with just dc tanked thrashers I have burned back to gate often enough, but would not expect to do so with a fat plate.
