... but for anyone flying jump capable capital ships I'd suggest to train JDC V. Cool

I trained JDC 5 and JFC 5 because of BLOPs.

In general, JDC 5 is probably just as important now as it used to be.

get a map program that show how far jumps look at systems 1-5 jumps away see how many lightyears that is, you are limited to 2.5year lights without it trained.

What about Phoebe makes it sound like taking more jumps along less direct routes is going to be less painful than it was before?

The old advice still applies, JDC IV right away, JDC V as soon as you can bear.

Yes if you fly a ship with a jump drive. I would even go as far as to say that it is even more important now that the jump ranges for most ships are so pathetic.

If you do not fly ships with jump drives then you of-course do not need it.
