As someone on the U.S. side of the payments gateway end of this, I can say a couple of things:

1. I don't think it's ultimately going to turn into that big of a deal. Yes, I'm familiar with the Russian law.
2. The law itself--steering well clear of why it came about--isn't all that clear.

The angle many U.S. companies are taking is that it's the unencrypted form of the payment method that constitutes the information the Russians want to keep on their soil and out of various other places.

Storing the encrypted form of the payment method's details is not exactly the same and might get around certain parts of this law. I would say it gets around the letter of this law, but maintains the spirit of the law.

All that is to say that my company is attempting to work around things in this way, and we think we will be successful. I have no idea what CCP is doing or attempting to do.

But again, I won't be surprised if this turns out to be a relatively small issue.

I honestly feel like I just read fifty shades of dumb. --CCP Falcon

Hello CCP,
i have a question.
31.12.2014 a law on PD was passed and starts work at 1 september 2015. In a short this law means that all companies, sites and etc must keep russian personal data at servers that locates in Russia.
Credit card number is a pd so i wont be able to pay with card.
Even more - email is a pd so eveonline.com will be blocked with my provider if you (CCP) will not keep pd in Russia.

So what will you do with that? Do you have servers in motherland? :/

Well, simply put, CCP can not really do much about that law that has obviously deeper reasons behind it given Russia's current economic state. They want people to return home from off-shore and conduct their businesses in the homeland.

This server will contain their personal information only, right? No game data? If the Russian players suddenly acquire fleets of Carriers and Titans I think we will know what happened.

in my opinion to prevent further rule breaking posts this thread should be locked so noone will be banned and noone will be hurt. simple.

i am only hoping that they wont recevie game data sush account details . as it could give them advantage, besides that what are other consequences of this law?

Nice troll. I am russian and I do not think any one ever will check, where my personal data are. There are top polititians and goverment employees, who's data will be followed, but 99.9 % of the RF citizens are out of it. All this jabba-jabba is only to keep important ppl under control, and I am sure OP is not on that list. Simply because he has time to play Eve.

There are numerous forums on the intertubes where the discussion of real life politics can take place.

This is not one of them. Get over it.

How about 'Balkanization' (of the internet)? For that is what this is.

Without naming names: Certain countries want to break the net into fiefdoms that they can control, and it's something they are pushing for strongly at various international forums. Certain other countries are fighting against this, but the majority of countries remain in the middle ground. Their officials are persuaded by the arguments of the first group (for a number of different reasons), but they haven't yet swung either way.

If you live in one of those middle-ground countries lobby your government to keep the internet as it was intended... otherwise this is what will happen to you.
