Gallente Ratting in Angel Space

Ok so I can fly Gallente battleships, Battlecruisers, T2 cruisers etc... I moved out to 0.0 where my alliance/corp is and the rats are Angel... This concerned me because Gallente ships are very vulnerable to explosive damage and takes a lot to tank Angel rats when flying Gallente ships.

I did my research and found the only ship that I think might possibly be able to tank the rats and do enough damage to make me good ISK was the Ishtar. I fit my Ishtar with 3 Explosive hardeners and 1 kinetic with the single MAR and an Afterburner. I go to a Forsaken HUB and my Ishtar is quickly brought almost into hull by the time I warp out...

Am I doing something wrong?
Are Gallente ships just not going to make me any isk out in Angel space?
What might be a good fit/ship that is Gallente for Angel ratting?

I use to live in Guristas nullsec and my Deimos could tank the rats there EASILY and do 700 DPS no problem and I could use most any Gallente ship bigger than a Cruiser out there to tank them and make lots of isk.

Suggestions???

Try a passive shield tank on your Ishtar.

Also the High end Angel BS (Seraphim and Cherubim) don't do explosive damage, they do EM and Therm, respectively.

Shield tanked Ishtar with Berserkers/Bouncers in your drone bay will make angels ratting easy mode.

Also Gila/Rattlesnake comes to mind, but you will have to do some cross training for that.

Passive shield tanked Gila.

The Ishtar is only good versus Serpentis and Guristas, because of it's T2 resist to kinetic.

galente amor resist is indeed not very good angainst angel dps because of the low explosive resist. So Shield tanking is indeed the best possibilite. U could passiv shield tank an ishtar but T2 galente shield resistens is not optimal for angel dps too. So a passiv tanked Gila would be the best option (like the poster before already sad). Gila has better resists then the isthar. U would need caldari cruiser 4 or better 5 ;) to get the most out of the resist bous.

If u realy want to use a galente amor tanked vessel u can use a proteus.

Fitt along these things and u should be able to tank angel rats even in a t2 fit.

So at the end ur situation is not that Optimal but u have a few options ;)

The only time Explosive damage should be your only worry is if you are far enough away that they are only hitting you with missles, which AFAIK are only explosive damage. Due to starting at a natural 50% resist to explosive and having a small sig, and being faster without any armor rigs (I would nano my lows too), should let a passive ishtar basically shrug off BS missile damage.

You can do more or less the same thing with Gila, assuming you have caldari skills.

Outside of that, you could always rat in a Thanatos, seems to be fairly popular, I would say it is more risky, but hell, there is insurance for that.

Angels have target painters, they make your cruiser hull as big as battleship is and then those BS size NPC's really tear you down.
