I know plenty of FCs who do so from a field command ship. Damnation has close to half a million EHP with bonuses it provides, unless it's an alphafleet there is about zero chance of it being called primary while the fight is still up in the air. And if it does get primaried, the logis will laugh as they rep it against the incoming DPS.

Vulture and Claymore are somewhat the same story, tanked to **** (less so the Claymore) and awesome resists (less so the Vulture).

Which is exactly why I'm going for the Damnation when I can. Gonna be a while though; plenty of time to practice the non-skill based part of fleet command.

This has certainly given me a lot to think about. For now, while I train up my basic skills, I'm going to start leading small T1 Frigate group from my startup corp through low/nullsec on suicide practice runs. Get a feel for commanding and get us all some combat experience.

Frigate gangs are fun, you just have to get the outset for returning back home the fast way (read: pod-express aka clone). Also Azual has some pretty awesome guides for pvp initiates as well as starting FCs. Recommended read. Furthermore you may want to do Agony Unleashed's pvp classes as well if you don't feel comfortable enough. Als browse around their main web page, there are much good stuff there.

links (for some reason they do not parse if i inline link them):

From my own experience flying a Damnation - throughout the years and tens and hundreds of encounters i've never been primaried in a damnation. Neither has FC primaried a Damnation unless absolutely necessary or it was single ship alive.

Also. Solo damnation is 150% trap, +10% per skill level. And fleet damnation is the most likely ship to carry a cyno.

Vulture and Claymore have less tankability, because they do not receive hitpoint bonuses. Also claymore does not receive any passive tanking bonuses, but gets am active shield tanking one, which is not a bets idea for large fleet. Nonetheless both ships are capable of fielding a formidable tank, with Claymore being the fastest of them all and capable of speed tanking quite well. Vulture is, well, essentially an overtanked drake with less launchers and no missile bonus.

Ah, you seek meaning? Then listen to the music, not the song.

From my perspective as a logi pilot, Vultures/Claymores have about the same tankability thanks to shield reps landing instantly. And what the Claymore lacks in a resist or HP bonus, it makes up for in a resist profile perfect for the current EM-heavy metagame of EVE.

I honestly didn't expect so much good information so quickly. While I did like the Eos, switching to another Fleet Command Ship is perfectly fine, very little lost in the way of skill points or ISK at this point. The Damnation does have my attention. If anything, it seems this ship would survive through any encounter I'm not already running from while providing enough gang boosts and DPS to be worth a ship slot.

Damnation gives you more than you think towards your goals. Survivability (until your logi die), decent relevent bonuses in a fleet, and finally utility.

Did you know that Damnation can field multiple gang support mods in mids? Due to being a armour tank and capless lol weaponary, one can fit triple remote eccm for example and offer one to each logi, to counter jamming problems, or remote sensor boost your main dps boats/support vessels. Heck, you can even throw on a rack of target painters/tracking disrupters when in a close range fleet to offer the fleet a overpriced ewar platform . It is a great ship. Ditch the Eos and never look back.

Now, just for the record the mimmy have the claymore, which can romp with a nano gang... kinda cool, but not a over the top non-situational usefuil fleet booster like the Damnation. Caldari are a damnation with less utility and shield of course. Good luck with your path.
