Being an Outlaw

Hi guys, yay for my first forum post! Big smile

Anyway onto the topic at hand - I am a noob and I've been learning how to gank. I've done quite a bit of research (reading, youtube-watching, etc.) into ganking but I'm still finding the prospect of gameplay as an outlaw a little intimidating. A lot of the guides kind of skim over what happens between the ganks. I was hoping that some of you guys would be kind enough to share any tips about how you play as an outlaw in highsec.

I guess I should probably be more specific, so the main things I'm worried about are:
- Does concord take offense just for me being in highsec, or is that just the faction poilce?
- How to get ships to use without being exploded at the undock
- Travelling. Would you recommend I always travel in my pod or are fast-warping ships ok?

Q: Does concord take offense just for me being in highsec, or is that just the faction poilce?
A: When you perform a high sec gank, concord will destroy you if you are in a ship for the next 15 minutes. Faction police will chase you if your security status is low enough, but they can be avoided by warping away, while concord cannot.
More info on security status here: https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Security_status
While you have a criminal timer after a gank, it's best to just stay docked, or to travel in your pod.

Q: How to get ships to use without being exploded at the undock
A: Haul ganking supplies to your home system with an alt. Suicide ganking in general is a lot more convenient if you have two accounts. One for hauling/scouting/loot scooping, and one dedicated ganker. It's possible to use a single account with two characters if you don't mind relogging all the time, though.
If you need to undock in a ship with people camping your station, you can use an instant undock bookmark. I'm sure there's guides on how to make one on youtube.

Q: Travelling. Would you recommend I always travel in my pod or are fast-warping ships ok?
A: Usually traveling in a pod or shuttle is recommended, as people can catch most other ships by sitting in interceptors on gates. Sometimes you will be making a jump or two in your catalyst to get to your intended victim, and that's usually okay if you're not too close to major trade hubs, and if you're not being followed by anti-gankers.

Thanks Charlie! That's put my mind at ease a little. Now I just have to worry about improving my technique (had a couple of botched attempts so far)

Gank retrievers in 0.5 systems. Long CONCORD response time allows a large margin of error; you can use a t1 fit catalyst without full gunnery skills and if you are able to scoop the wrecks you should make enough ISK to finance operations.
Anyone dumb enough to mine in 0.5 with a retriever will probably be semi-afk so you have plenty of time to switch characters and scoop loot.

0.5 = lowest security highsec system, system name is yellow on HUD and starmap. Find one with lots of belts and mining activity > profit.

Welcome Marble.

I'm new to the shenanigans too.

I'd say always travel in a rookie ship or shuttle. Because ganking pods is easy.

Not that I condone pod ganking.

Just sayin.

Welcome to Eve!

Let us know if you have any other questions as it looks like Charlie (like the hero he is) provided excellent comprehensive answers.

I'd also encourage you to look up the corporation New Order Logistics. They are a ganking corporation in CODEdot alliance and they would be able to provide you with fits, advice, guidance, and wingmates to gank with.

Also feel free to mail me if you have any specific questions.

See you in space!

I'd also like to add that this segment of Charlie's advice applies equally well to outlaws and those operating under wardec conditions. I have alts who I can drop out of corp to do my haulage if necessary, and I typically have instant dock/undock bookmarks at stations that I operate out of for any length of time. Both are invaluable to me.

Another piece of advice I'd like to contribute is to have a neutral scout/spy. They don't need any skills, but having one with access to a CovOps frigate is nice.

Many different styles of ganking: miners, haulers, newbie ships (often filled with good loot), pods....

Actually, skilling into a Ex Frig (the Prospect) is easier and faster, and Prospects cost about the same as a typical CovOps boat.

Also, you can pretend to be an Innocent Miner and blend in with the herd.

Everything in EVE is a trap.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

Interesting. I've used a Venture to blend in before but never considered training up to a Prospect. Hmmmm....

I've heard good things about using the prospect to scout. People don't really pay attention to it.

Thanks for the help guys! I might consider training up for the prospect, although the venture had been my original thought

Venture works fine till you finish the training for the Prospect. Venture is just as good but the Prospect doubles as a cloaky eyes.

And that's assuming the cattle (miners) ever bothered to add it to the overview.

Yeah we had a guy that we ganked who was inspecting the prospect sitting at 0 on him and looking at the stats of it when our gank ships landed. We know because we were watching his live stream.

There are secret panache-filled ways to becoming an outlaw, that don't involve negative sec status, going criminal or granting killrights.
