Data Site Scanning 3 of 5 - EVE Feedback

Hello,

I'm a few days into playing EVE. I have accumulated a few ships, a few million ISK, and I'm making my way through the agent missions. Generally speaking, I have enjoyed my time playing so far, else I wouldn't have subscribed.

However, there are some bumps in the road with the starting missions that can put a new player off. What I am about to describe has happened twice, but I can't remember the details of the first case.

In mission 3 of the Gallente (University of Caille) starting area for Exploration, you the capsuleer are given everything necessary to complete the mission via a depot in space. Up until this point, the game trains you that all ship modules have to be fitted in dock. Yet in this case (and without warning) the next stage assumes and requires that the modules are in your cargo hold.

My first instinct was to warp back to the university, and outfit my ship. Upon returning, I find out I have to warp back and put them back in my cargo hold. These things happen, moving on.

The next stage of the mission requires scanning a particular signature to locate a data site. While fun at first, the first few times trying it can be a bit tricky for a new capsuleer. I did finally get to the data site, with the ship and modules specifically provided for this mission. Yet upon hacking the data site succesfully multiple times, nothing happened.. No proof of discovery, no jettisoned material. Right clicking the container and selecting loot cargo simply delivers a message indicating another type of equipment is required.

After hours working on this mission, there was nothing to show, and I have log out only to do it again tomorrow if I'm feeling up to it at all. This may be an oversight on my part, although I've hacked, mined, and salvaged my way through other agent arcs and lowsec space for a few days. Some of these mission design choices can really throw new people off and just result in a frustrating loop. Happy hunting..

My $0.02

Hey there,

It's been a long time since I did the starter missions for exploring but I'll help you as much as I can.

First off, don't warp away from the target, it resets and you have to hack the can all over again.

Secondly, someone else got there first, scan down another site and repeat the process.

When I did the starter missions, the mission item required was respawned after a few mins just in case someone else got there first. I'm not sure if this is still the case.

If the problem persists, file a petition with CCP, as it may be a bug. Detail what your doing and where, and then you should be contacted by a GM (GameMaster).

I believe the New Player Experience is still a WIP as far as mission details go, and certain important parts, like having the fit in your cargo hold, will be missed out at first. I've only just started to use a mobile depot and had to have help from corp mates.

A few tips for scanning: hold alt to move all your probes closer/furthur away and hold shift to move the probes one at a time. If your having trouble getting to 100%, move all you probes closer until they are on top of each other to get a stronger scan.

Having skills at least at lvl 4 will help immensely.

hope the above has helped.

Fly safe and good luck, o7

There's a sticky thread in EVE New Citizens Q&A called 'Tutorial and Opportunities Suggestions/Comments'.

That would be a great place to post your viewpoints on the starter missions.

Talia Valta pretty much covered it all. Just keep on trying. If it was easy then everyone would be doing it.

Other than that, welcome to Eve. Hope you have a long and rewarding career here.
