The "logical" path?

I know Eve is a "sandbox" and it's basically up to me as to what I do, but I just finished the SOE Epic Arc, and I am finding myself saying "What next?". I want to work my way up with SOE standing, and eventually get to L4's, so for now I am just training skills for a Rupture and hopefully will be able to easily solo the L2's.

I don't really know if that's what I should be doing or not. I would like to be able to solo PVE content and make good money.

Is there a logical path that I should follow in this regard?

If your short term goal is to run lvl4 SoE missions, that is the most direct path. Whether it is the right one for your needs and wants is subjective.

EVE is what happens when the rule of law does not apply and Darwinism is allowed to run freely.

In general it sounds like you've got the right idea for what you're trying to do. If you've got the isk, another good option for a low sp toon would be the gnosis.

When training, don't put to much emphasis on the medium stuff, focus more so on skills that will impact what you have now + the battleship you'll have in the future. For example, if you want more dps and medium projectile turret is at 3, training a skill like gunnery or surgical strike will bump up ur dps for all turrets instead of just medium

FWIW, a dominix is one of the easiest ways to run L4 missions with low skill points and isk requirement. I started out with a rupture too, but faction sentry drones and rail guns are in the powerful weapon category currently. Projectile weapons are considered out of favor (but go ahead and use them if you prefer them -- I do on a Machariel).

A Vexor or Vexor Navy Issue is a very good intermediate step towards the Dominix if you enjoy using drones.
