Why do players create hauling contracts?

To be honest I'm more surprised that people accept those hauling contracts.
I certainly wouldn't fly half way across the galaxy in a freighter for just a few million isk.

Because time is money and not everyone has the skills for a freighter.

Ehh. Some charge 10m a haul and others charge 20m-30m. A hulk makes what 1.5m isk every two cycles? So that's what three minutes with full boosts?

Everyone has pretty much answered you to death already so no need to go on, theres a million reasons to contract out a hauler.

I agree, I am a hauler and I don't touch those contracts. I haul for about a mil per jump and then depending on the collateral above 1bil it multiplies on that (ie: 2x for 2bil, 5x for 5bil per jump). There's def money to be made, especially in owning a JFer.

While partially true, it isn't best paying stuff.

I've done it on an alt a while (doing public aswel as Push and RFF contracts), and sure, it is income, but it isn't much vs the time you spent doing it.

Hauling is extremly cheap, imo. I would say around 1% of the colateral while you can transfer all the risk to the third party.
I have bought skillbooks with a LOT more markup in the same station from a player instead of flying the 2 jumps to buy it from an NPC.

That's not how it works.

If I'm traveling from "A" to "B" and I have space for some more cargo, and don't have to deviate too much from my route to pick it up or drop it off, then I'll accept any reasonable contract. It is "free" ISK.

There are freighters constantly traveling between trade hubs, but often only have a load to carry in one direction. Smart pilots never travel empty.

A friend in Red Frog earns billions (>20) a month by AFK hauling 23/7 with an army of PLEXed freighter alts. He's not even concerned about losses or ransoms, since Red Frog insures the haulers.

Sometimes I'll except every contract in rookie systems, just to help out.

I currently own four Charon freighters and two Rhea jump freighters; you get used to the (lack of) speed... and I never AFK haul.

My corporation is constantly at war. Every major trade hub is camped. I decided to base out of a nearby system and just use an alt to purchase my goods. I then make a courier contract to Red Frog and they happily (I hope) courier my goods back and forth for a very cheap sum.

I outsource all of my hauling, because I can make someone else take all of the risk of moving goods and only give them a tiny fraction of the profits.

I actually tend to use Red Frog rather than making my own contracts.

I contract out haulage because:

1) I do not have the skill to fly freighters so the biggest load I can move in one trip is 60,000 m3 in my mastodon.
2) I would not fly a freighter enough to ever pay off the billion plus price tag anyway
3) I regularly move a plex worth of PI at a time and prefer not risking it myself
4) My main can easily earn 50 - 100 mill an hour so spending an hour moving freight is not worth my while

Other people HAUL freight because:

1) With the right ship/fit and route you can do it afk while logged in to another character or even away from your pc altogether and hopefully make more ISK than you lose in ships occasionally destroyed
2) for newer low SP players haulage returns an OK ISK/hour compared to other new player activities

Don't haul AFK. It *always* ends in tears.

Hauling at the keyboard, with a scout that can provide intel on systems before you jump in and can instaweb you if needed is very different. It still pays terribly.

This. Alsl find cheap courier contracts, bring them together to 1 big courrier contract and have someone else haul it for your profit?

Work, you peasants. Twisted

All things considered, hauling charges are indeed very low.
