This still makes me laugh even though I almost bought a 970. Big smile

Thank goodness I wasted my money on the GTX980 instead.

Hahah, the 970 is still a good card though. I got the EVGA 980 FTW because I can make the LED's blink.

You tell the people who bought it for games that need a true 4gb card that it is "still a good card".

Also Re-post.

Jeee-sus! And I was thinking of getting a 970 for my new rig! Lol

Looks like its probably best to go with AMD if you really want 4gb for that price range. They even slashed prices due to the 970 fiasco. P

Its just a shame the top end AMD cards need a small nuclear reactor to power them and some cooling towers.

Waiting for this puppy to drop to 4-something to pull the trigger. On two.

That was a funny video. I know it would have been funnier if I was aware of the drama.

That was pretty funny even though I own an Asus 970. Despite all the flak the card has received, it still runs most games pretty decently even in 4K. The most frustrating thing about that card was Nvidia's initial lack of support for the black screen on boot issue a ton of people were getting if displayport was used.

That makes sense. Sort of like the onboard video / graphics card thing? It sounds frustrating--all I use is DisplayPort.

Haha, I think one of those use as much power as my 4790k and GTX980 combined. But I know you need as many display ports as you can get and thats kinda hard to find.

On the fence about the upgrade. My current cards are handling EVE just fine, and until something amazing happens to make me want to push full settings on all clients, I'm happy as long as my current rig holds out. I can't think of something that would make me want to run higher graphics, short of more character interaction time, and clothing.

Rig handles 3D rendering and everything else just fine. It would purely be a vanity upgrade.

Meme infos for the confused: http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/el-risitas-interview-parodies

and yes I'll be buying a 970 because I'm not an insane person who plays at 4k res and expects 120fps at top graphics settings.

No it was a firmware issue unique to the GTX980 & 970 that were connected to a 4K monitor over displayport. The problem was easily circumvented by leaving your monitor off during boot or by connecting both the displayport and HDMI cable where available. There was a 20+ page thread on the official nvidia forums, which promptly got ignored and gave rise to rumors that it was caused by faulty hardware. This only affected people with certain 4K monitors, which in turn resulted the blame being passed around between the different hardware manufacturers.

Only upgrade when you feel the need, because there is no futureproofing, the most current card will always be the most awesome and the cheapest for its bracket.

I am a digital artist so I have to have a pretty powerful computer to handle the primitive beast that Photoshop is, and various 3D programs. You could definately run Eve on high with a 970, and it will just plain run on really crummy rigs.
