Hello,

Could anyone suggest me a ship to start with some PvP action ? I joined a PvP corp and i would like to ask what would be a preferable starter ship and fitting for me ?
I currently use a Drake, but I can't really afford to loose it right now, that's why I'm looking for an alternative.
My skills can be found at - http://eveboard.com/pilot/Leriss_Serenthius

I would highly appreciate feedback !

It really depends on what, where, who and with whom you PVP. There is no "one size fits all" here and because of that we can't give you a definitive answer (and anyone doing so anyway should thus automatically be discarded). If you want to learn PVP you're best off doing so in frigates, partly because they're cheap and mostly because you will learn a whole lot more from fluid frigate PVP than from sluggish BC facehugging.

Assuming you try to find a 1v1 frigate fight have a look at these fits, I'll try and give you some reasoning for each of them. Translate to T1/named where needed but do not think that bling fits or ships are worth the isk as you start out, they aren't and they will just make for more painful lossmails. These are just idea, I'm sure others will comment and/or disagree.

This is a fairly basic "skirmisher", many people will urge you to fit a MWD but the thing is that MWD is only handy to rush in or out of trouble but not very useful in a scram range faceoff. Try to keep the other frigs at range a bit so their guns will be in falloff meaning they do less damage to you.

This is one takes range control to the extreme, it swaps the extender for a web meaning you can force most frigs to stay at long range (within scram) meaning their turrets will hit you for crap (most don't bother brining T2 range ammo and if they did they lose time by switching to it). This one also fits with a plate instead of the armor rep, both versions work. This is the "smart" way of doing things and works amazingly well against most other frigates (missile, drone and possibly pulse laser based ships are an exception. as well as VERY fast frigates or a Daredevil or other AB/web based stuff)

Small Bay Loading Accelerator I
Small Warhead Calefaction Catalyst I

This one is a bit weird and VERY much niche (only works against turret based frigs that are slower), it has zero tank but makes up for that with range and good damage. Still, probably not something you should aim for.

If you're looking for gang fits then it really depends on your role, be it tackling or perhaps a "frigate zerg".

Thanks a lot for this.

I've also been told that Caracal would be a good alternative, courtesy of Cruiser.
Do you have fits for that ?

The Caracal is only really good in an anti-frigate role as it lacks the dps to take on cruisers effectively, as such it's not really a good option for a solo ship; too sluggish to avoid getting caught by cruisers and no real means to kill them. There's several ways to fit them based on the scenario but it always involves assault launchers, heavies and HAMS won't fit properly. It can work in a small gang in an anti-Falcon role but that's a very limited niche.

It's T2 cousin Cerberus suffers from the same fate. The Navy Caracal is actually a good ship but then we go back to the "don't fly bling ships as you start out, you'll just lose them in a hilarious manner". So next stop really is the Drake tbh.

Besides that, I think that Caracal looks a bit anorectic.
Thanks for your help, I guess I will play around with the Kestrel fits and later on switch on the Drake :)

Something else to consider are the hybrid ships in the Caldari line-up, i.e. Merlin, Moa, Ferox, Rokh, Naga

The Merlin is one of the better t1 frigates out there apart from the Rifter and Incurses, decent tank, packs a solid punch with small blasters and/or rockets. No fits off the top of my head, but think MSE + Scram + Blasters

The Moa is pretty underrated in my opinion. Again, LSE + Scram + Blasters.

Don't neglect hybrids, as they are the other weapon type used by Caldari ships, and there have been countless newbie QQ threads on the forums because they don't realize that fact.

But yeah, for now, Drake is still your best bet
