This comes basing on a thread that recently popped up in F&I.

While it's understandable that some testing needs to be done, inclusion of those little things kind of spoils the mystery, doesn't it?

If you don't want to know what's in your presents, don't unwrap them ahead of time.

The test server serves as an important method of group testing upcoming changes, providing feedback, and finding bugs. That is a fundamentally incompatible goal with your desire to have surprise features added at patch time.

TLDR: Deal with it.

It's kind of more about the fact that it makes community news even if you don't use SiSi.

Do you believe that people getting to find new, unspoiled content that is full of bugs and poor balance is better than people finding out a few weeks in advance but the end product being more balanced and bug free when it hits the live server?

It's really the only question involved. You can't keep new content a secret without preventing it from being player tested and bugchecked, and if you prevent that from happening, you get a buggy mess when it hits Tranquility.

And no, CCP does not have the time, money, or staff to do comprehensive internal bugtesting on everything before releasing it so you can find it out on patch day, and even doing that would mean that players would be unable to give feedback on proposed changes, which is a large part of the point of SiSi in the first place.

Given they're an actual company and their own internal testing server (Chaos), a fair level of QA is already present. Singularity sounds good when it comes to testing balance changes or changes to the game engine which can have a performance impact - such as the recently released PBR.

It's also good when it comes to testing how players respond to things such as new icons, as it allows them to make changes before the feature actually goes live.

There is a saying that no plan survives contact with the enemy.
The same is true with internal testing versus release.

It is better for EVE players to find problems on SiSi than internal testing releasing straight into the TQ.

That said, if would be courteous if people posting or linking outside of this immediate testing forum mark their content as a spoiler. However, anyone using this testing forum should understand that any thread here is likely to contain spoilers.

That is true, there's always a bug you miss and it comes around to bite you in the nose.

That said, when it comes to spoilers they crop up all around the community. Hell, even after an expansion releases people use Singularity for figuring some of those things out because it's safer that way. Doing this stuff live, with the added "unknown stuff on the horizon, may explode you" factor is half the fun.

Then you can choose not to read the stuff posted in the community to preserve your sense of mystery, because not having it tested by the playerbase is not an option.

Sorry if this ruins your "sense of unknown on the horizon" and "ruins half the fun", but frankly, it's not the games problem, it's your problem. Because the quality of releases is dependent on community testing of new content for problems and bugs, so permitting masses of bugs into a final release because you don't want to know whats coming, and you still want to read the forums and the news sites but don't want anything spoiled, is absolutely ridiculous.

The rest of us will be happy to see regular bugtested releases in which we can get hyped about what we know is coming, knowing it's not likely to be a buggy mess.

Hm, yeah I seem to remember this content hitting SiSi with tons, tons of bugs everywhere.

...not. In fact, most of the time said content is rather simple in nature and internal testing is enough to deal with anything in it.
