My vote is for Asari, because lesbianism and mind-blowing mating ritual.

What do you think is the best sci-fi race, and why?

The postings:

The Vorta from Deep Space 9 - Sib (we know who the vorta are miss thing)
Space Orks (WH40K) - Aragoni (I think WH40K = Warhammer 40K. 40K x Regular Warhammer)
Quarians, Sith Purebloods, Twi'leks, Togrutas, Chiss, Eldar - Doryan (I'll bet he's one of those people who listed every band ever on his Myspace page)
Pak'ma'ra and Vorlon - Jenshae
The Culture - Valerie (actually not a new wave band)
Daleks - Commissar K8
Dralasites - Arkady
Humans - Indah
Leviathans - Zoom Boom Boom (you're not BBL)
The Doctor (Time Lords) - Hengle
Critters, and those mushroom creatures from Mom and Dad Save the World - Burtzum
The Dwellers from The Algebraist - Mizhir
The Borg from Star Wars - Jason Hill
Humans again - Regnar
Humans from Star Trek - Mori
Xenomorphs - Alpheias (AVP Derailment imminent)
Predator - Sib (AVP Derailment activated)
The Moties - Indah
Borg - Zealous Miner (resembles one himself)
Andorians from Star Wars - Mehrune
The Unnamed Race from Attack the Block - Thilos
Tamarians and Lurians - Paranoid Loyd
The Fremen from Arrakis - Rena
The Zerg, Furians - DaReaper
The Xeelee - Ila Dace (that was only one race, you get to post two)
Weeping Angels - Scipio
The Centauri - Marsha (marsha marsha)
E.T. - moep
Q - Sib (because she's camping the thread)
Gamilus Empire - Uriel (stop lurking EVE-O get back to investigating unidentified things)
The Reapers from Halo - Nerath
Cylons from Battlefield Earth - Guardian
Necromorph, Screamer, Starship Troopers bugs - Mina Sebiestar (It's SebiastAR, not SebiastAH)

The Vorta from Deep Space 9. They were genetically engineered and cloned. They were quite intelligent and devious.

Weyoun IV's first meeting with Cisco is one of my favorite Star Trek scenes..

Edit: Why do I think they're the best? I really don't know! I just like them!

Joffy Aulx-Gao for CSM. Fix links and OGB. Ban stabs from plexes. Fulfill karmic justice.

I don't have a specific favourite, but I really love the Quarians and Asari from Mass Effect; Sith Purebloods, Twi'leks, Togrutas and Chiss from Star Wars; Eldar from Warhammer 40k- that's about it.

For the Quarians- I really love their design and how they're based on Battlestar Galactica.
Asari- they're just really interesting and not exactly a stereotypical blue alien lady race.

Sith Purebloods- they're just badass and the centre of all that is Sith in Star Wars.
Twi'leks- they have a really interesting design and can make interesting characters.
Togrutas- like the Twi'leks, they have a really cool design and some of their characters are extremely interesting.
Chiss- as well as having a cool design, they're a very badass species with badass characters.

The Eldar- the way they're written and how different they are from generic 'space-elves' is beautiful. They're carefully designed and written and have some of the neatest war units I've ever seen.

Pak'ma'ra and Vorlon

CCP - Building ant hills and magnifying glasses for fat kids

Not even once

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.

The Culture.

Why be only one race, or one sex, or have only one body? Die only when you choose (usually).

Tactical destroyers... I'll take a dozen Gallente, please.

I think you disqualified them from the thread. I suspect The Culture is names such as in a "culture of mould" or a "culture of bactera" looking at a mix of life forms as interesting things in the metaphorical petri dish from probably the perspective of the minds, that control the ships and stations.

"They are capable of singing what is considered extremely beautiful music, but only do so on religious holidays"
Also, I like Babylon 5 for having actual aliens, not just humans with face paint.

The technology of the Culture is such that an organic member may choose pretty much any organic form they wish. One humanoid character was female during the novel but had changed sexes at least twice. Another character chose life as an animal for a time. Physical shape and ability is largely a matter of style in the Culture.

If you're a human in the Culture, you don't have to stay that way.

I have read the books. They are not a singular race.
Ian probably does have the richest and most alien universe.

My favourite sci-fi race is probably the Dwellers from Iain Bank's The Algebraist. Their approach to life and the way they treat their offspring is hilarious.
