Something / anything needs to be a done. Even the smallest gesture to tip the hat to a true icon of the sci fi universe needs to happen from CCP. Maybe we don't all like or respect Star Trek but I'm sure as hell sure that the Sci Fi we do like is in large part thanks to the Original Series.

RIP Leonard Nimoy.

+1 for a shuttle, but something unique.

Maybe just swap a few letters around (easiest CCP fix ever) and poof, the Leopard becomes the Leonard.

The guy was 83 or so, it was time for him to go. Sure, if he was 30 and died tragically it would be different but he was old and no one lives forever, so I don't understand all this sadness.

what's the big fuss? An actor died.

Alexander Grothendieck passed away a few months ago, I didn't see people asking to name systems/ships after him.

Same, Nemoy was a great man. But he was just a man like anyone else. I dont see the Sally Ride ship or anything else.

because the current generation of EVE players, for the most part, spent their childhood watching Nimoy onscreen with their parents, and then taught their children to watch and love the series aswell.

its one of the oldest/longest lasting scifi television series out there, and has its own near-religious level of following.

there IS a difference on teh cultural impact Nimoy has made worldwide

not only that, but Nimoy was a real cool dude even offscreen, easily one of the mroe likable actors from the original series

he was an important man, and deserves reverence

We know who he is and we know what he's done.

What I am trying to say is a celebrity who has made no real contribution to this world other than acting does not deserve this much attention.

He's an actor, a good one, nothing more, nothing less.

This being said though, it would not be the first reference in-game to historically-significant icons of science fiction. If you've ever run data sites in null sec, you've more than likely run into one of those black obelisks from Space Odyssey (and if you check their description, it says "It's full of stars").

Aside from you being picky and shooting this down just for the lolz, I don't see any reason not to do it. In fact, you might even say that to ignore the overwhelming amount of player feedback here would be......illogical.

and for those non-western fans out there, just look to the chimera's ingame description for all your scifi space-boat reference needs

What I am trying to say is a celebrity who has made no real contribution to this world other than acting does not deserve this much attention.

He's an actor, a good one, nothing more, nothing less.

Shakespeare did little more than write, and he has statues of himself in front of numerous universities around the world, same with Mark Twain and numerous other writers, people who did little more than make entertainment their lifetime career, and are REVERED for it.

As Spock, and through his other ventures, Leonard Nimoy helped promote a whole generation of interest in space exploration, science, and boldly going where no one had gone before. CULTURALLY, this man helped define a generation, and every generation that came after it. Hell, I know kids who were born in 2006 that know what star trek, who spock, is.

Fact is, if mark twain or shakespeare can get a statue, I see no reason why Nimoy cant get a memorial of SOME kind in a SPACESHIP GAME that might only exist today because of the interest in scifi he helped create. The culture WE live in, and I dont mean that in generational or national terms, but the geek/nerd/space-enthusiast community, had many of its FOUNDATIONS built by this man, yes there were those who came before, and those that came after. While I personally am a fan of Heinlein and Asimov, most people wouldnt know who they are, or have read their books, but almost EVERYONE knows Spock, and Nimoy.

So forgive me if I find your point rather, well, pointless.
