For fun: find the sarcasm in my post.

You mean the fact that PS2 games are no longer backwards compatible on the new PS3s?

Hah!

(oh, and there's nothing terribad about writing for the PC's more generalised abstraction layer; it just amuses me when people go on about how advanced PC games are when console developers are the ones who have to get the most out of the hardware, so I tend to poke fun at PC devs)

Nice onefor the info, as far as PC vs console development goes, I see it as an efficeincy vs perforamnce thing.

To my mind PC games are better because there final performance will beat even the most effecient running console's harware.
Consoles are around 1/2 the price of a decent PC when they first come out and have several years shelflife. Pc's leave them in the dust (no pun inteded) even running a little 'flabby'

It would be an incredible PR gamble if it was. The chances of meeting your exact deadline so far away is a pretty risky thing to title your game on.

Yep, pretty much.

But, in the pursuit of new technologies, PC games often have technically impessive rather than visually impressive graphics, random example, Battlefield 3, has some nice visual effects 'n stuff, but does it really look significantly better than Bad Company 2? Not really. Or Skyrim, which mixes photorealism in some places, with graphics not any better than Morrowind's in others.

Whereas console games, starved as they are for fancy hardware, focus on things looking nice. Which is why you get games like Uncharted which, despite being 720p, low framterate, low texture resolution, etc, are still more visually appealing than some bleeding-edge PC games.

I hope it's not the "PS2 games people still play", because the PS2 has not been EOL'd yet and people are still buying new PS2 game at retail. And not long-term multiplayer ones, single-player ones.

The PS3 has years left in it yet, even if the PS4 comes out next year. Just like the PS2 probably does. And I still break out the PS1 from time to time.

this pretty much,
dust has many issues

1. shooters do not do well on ps3
2. oversaturation of FPS and exclusives on ps3, the competition will be absurd.
3. soon as next gen comes out dust will die, fast
