I bought and played Swtor and only put 3 hours into it until I decided I wanted to end my month long break from Eve and play again.

Most eve players wont enjoy Swtor, its restrictive in almost every way and honestly could've been a single player game with a multiplayer battle arena cause thats exactly what it ends up being.

I'm hoping I'll get into the game soon cause I've spent 60 bucks on getting it. But I'm doubtful.

I now realize how wise it was for ccp to refocus on FiS with crucible in the face of SWTOR. SW is no threat to spacefights, but it surely would have been to a poorly implemented incarna.
It is nice that they got it all by themselves, without any hint of the players at all. Well done.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

Eve is slowly fading to a memory for me at the moment

Yet here you are on the EVE forums posting away lol.

Thank you for pointing that out, but i think people could have figured it out, because they would have seen my post.

I check up on the forums once in a while to keep up to date with any mechanics changes, see what the latest rage is about, and occasionally troll morons. Doing so doesn't automatically mean i'm playing eve, or have any interest in playing eve at the moment. Your attempt at pedantism has failed, you'l get no self gratification from your attempt to make me look bad. Perhaps you should go beat up a woman to make yourself feel like a bigger man.

I did nothing of the sort. I merely pointed out that it is a contradiction to day EVE is a fading memory whilst you are actively posting on the game forums.

Your attempt to use clever words to make yourself look clever has failed horribly. Oh, the shame. 1000 shame's on you.

Anyway it looks like I hit a nerve because of your completely over-reactionary answer involving suggesting physical violence. I suggest you take some time out from computers. They can be stressful and cause you to suggest to people that they beat people up.

I must admit I am worried about you. I hope you don't resort to hurting someone over this. If you need to talk about it then please get in touch with your local mental health professional or a volunteer listening service. They will help and listen to your troubles.

Confirming that my work involving (and probably extending) Icinga has pulled me off Eve far more than any game ever will.

Yes I'm a sucker for FOSS projects, in particular when tied to things like monitoring and backup.

Stop posting all this bullcrap people... NOTHING can kill EVE except for EVE itself.

2011:
WoT had a good run during the beta and after release, but everybody came back after they figured out it was nothing more than something to do between fleet-fights.

Skyrim is a singleplayer game with a finite storyline. Sure it will probably spawn ex.packs in the future, but most people will grow tired of walking and taking arrows in the knee.

BF3 is a FPS game (duh). Ofc a lot of people will devote time to this game, for a long period of time too. But in the end its all very repetitive.

SWTOR and STO are just wow-clones with spaceships and lasers. Nothing more. Neither offers any of what EVE does on the meta-gaming level. Sure, they have some of the things we might wish EVE had right now. But all that proves is the fact that the developers of these games does not see the true potential and appeal of EVE.

Do we want fps-type combat in EVE? Do we want to fly our frigs (sized 50 -> 200m long) as if they where WW1 fighter-planes?

World of Warplanes will probably pull quite a lot of people away from EVE for some time. But after a while it too will suffer from what WoT did. Repetitiveness.

tl;dr: the thing that is appealing about other games is that its something "new" to do, and tries to do something EVE does not do. (But miss the mark completely on everything that EVE offers)

SWTOR is overhyped.

Decent game, just not as good as people make it out to be.

You forgot World of Warships. This will grab more EVE players than Warplanes imo.

It's not until World of Submarines finally comes out that CCP has something to really worry about.

For a game to kill eve it has to have something called quality. Sadly SWTOR is not quality.

On the otherhand when skyrim landed you could see a visible population drop in eve.

Why Can't I have a picture signature.

Also please support graphical immersion, bring back the art that brought people to EvE online originaly.

SWTOR has done to games what the prequel movies did to films.

Skyrim is still sucking up a lot of time that was usually reserved for EVE, but games like this I usually only play for a few weeks and then return to EVE. Played the SWTOR final beta, even leveled to level 17, just because I wanted a ship and see the space combat myself and then I lost all interest in the game, when I saw the tunnel shooter and realised the rest of the game is also a tunnel-RPG.

6 Years of playing EVE and I am not going to leave anytime soon, expecially not for SWTOR.

If you are wiling do drop your FOSS exclusivity, I recommend "HP Data Protector". This data backup game will raise your adrenaline level to the sky. It's better than PvP. You never know what will happen next and if you pair it with some modern HP tape library, the excitement will never end. Errors, crashes, undefined behavior, ... And there are no tutorial missions. A truly hardcore experience.

On the real though, Drew Karpyshyn is writing for it I believe, so that means (hopefully) good things.

Predictable Thread is Predictable?

EVE Players (all ~30,000 of us actual individual human beings) decry SWTOR as "sucky".

SWTOR sells 1.5 million units in it's pre-order and first week, on the way to what looks like a predicted 3 million subs first month.

EVE Players bemoan that "Theme Park Ride MMO's have no staying power.

WoW rolls on in Year #7 with 10 million+ subs, despite the fact it's content has been tripe for ages.

EVE Players decry it as too easy, too basic, too rails, etc.

EVE Players forget that EVE-level difficulty is VERY niche, and that the vast majority of teh gaming public wants easy, basic, rail-based story-driven fun.

Face it boys and girls, Joe Q Gamer knows what EVE is, and has said "lol, no, too hard".

Joe Q. Gamer knows what a Sandbox is, and replies "meh, no point, I don't play video games to write my own story or create my own fun".

We truly dedicated and long-term Sandbox'lovin EVE players are like the hardcore Fligh Sim folks, except there are alot less of us around.

The reason the Sandbox is so rare is because the players have roundly said "no thanks" to our preferred style of gaming.
