Link/Booster Placement Question

I was watching a few twitch broadcasts (small gang/solo) and noticed that some players were placing their command ship boosters in orbits around stations or gates versus hiding them in safes.

I was just wondering what the advantages were by operating in this fashion.

Less chance of getting probed down and killed. someone targets your links dock then up or jump then through.

Thanks for the reply.

Station i can see, now that i think about it, but the gate doesn't really provide protection if a gang chases you back and forth, or am i over thinking this.

I have no experience with command ships can they jump a gate and warp away from hostiles with impunity?

1. you can't jump through gates and dock on stations if you have aggression timers, so the booster can easliy dock/ jump when being aggressed leaving the aggressors behind.

2. gate/station guns open fires to people who fires on neutral pilots, and normally most boosters are neutral so they're kinda protected by the station/gate guns.

Completely forgot about aggression timers.

You're right the links will most likely be neutral so a cloaky, gate orbiting, (neutral) command ship should be very safe.

Thank you.

Using linking command ship on a gate is just asking for getting killed. I use command ships exclusively for linking on a station inside docking radius so I cant get bumped off.
Also using links on gates is only beneficial for situations where your gang wants to stay mobile over several systems, other than that using them on gates makes your gang prone to them getting forced through the gate and therefor losing their benefit.

I'll try to ask in the stream next time I see command ships used in this fashion, specifically around gates, I've seen it used a few times in this manner. Try to get an answer from the horses mouth.

What confuses me is that I generally see streamers using T3s as their links hide them in safes versus stations and gates.

If they are on a safespot the enemy gang needs to go through a lot of effort to disable them, while if theyre on a gate one cruiser shooting them, which might not even be part of the enemy gang, just a 3rd party out for a shiny opportunity kill, is enough to force them off for a considerable time. Stations are the perfect spot for boosting, after poses but theyre not always available obviously.

people that put their boosters on gates are probably from Low Sec, since as I've told you already, gate has guns in low sec.
