Cancelled Contracts?

I was looking at some of the courier contracts available, and someone in Viziam warned me that people could drop a contract and keep my collateral once I'd accepted it. Is that true? I would think such a massive loophole wouldn't be allowed, but I'm not putting up every penny I have to take a mission if all they have to do is press cancel and leave me stuck with a pile of veldspar or something.

I'm aware of the tactic to get someone to accept a lucrative contract out in dangerous territory... then kill them making it impossible to complete... but I'm more than willing to take on that kind of PvP. I shouldn't be playing EvE if not. But again, why would anyone need to bother killing you if they could just cancel the contract? Same Question remains. Can they?

I think they can forcefully fail the contract yes...

But i haven't touched the public ones in forever so I might be mistaken...

I don't think they can Cancel contract once it has been accepted. And they can only Fail it if you don't complete the contract within given time (at least 1 day).

This. The issuer of the contract cannot cancel it once it's in progress. You can, however.

Ah, they gain the option to fail it only after the time expires. That makes more sense.

Thank you.
