Worth tranining to V? I suppose the answer is yes if you're a dedicated supercarrier pilot, but what if you're not?

Workarounds are not bugfixes.

For droneboats - cap or subcap - train it to V, I for myself haven't trained it at all on others.

Its worth training to V for just about all ships. The question is, is there something that is a better use of the training time?

To put it into perspective, it is a Rank 5 skill, which means you could instead have:
- Any level V Racial Cruiser.
- Interdictors V.
- Cruise Missiles V (torps is a rank 4 skill for some reason)
- Any missile support skill to V.
- Any large gunnery system to V.
- Any gunnery support skill to V.
- 2 and a half of your armour compensations to V
- Cyno V
- Leadership V as well as all the basic leadership skills to IV
- Almost Advanced Weapons Upgrades V (Rank 6)
- Drone Interfacing V
- Sentry Drone Interfacing V
- Heavy Drone Interfacing V

There's probably more, but you get the idea. Do any of those skills (or any combination of many smaller skills) sound like they'd be a better use of that time?

Level IV is fine. That last 5% drone HP will rarely ever make a difference.

However if all you ever fly is drone boats, then go for it. Personally, I don't feel its worth it and would rather train other things.

I trained it to V early on.
But for me it was more about maxing the drone skill category as a whole. All V drone supports, which is what I did with missiles and guns as well.
Not sure if it has ever actually saved a drone for me or not...

I maxed the support skills for all weapon systems while I was on a long break from actually playing, and don't regret it. But like people above me have said already, you should consider if there's something more important to train first.

When I'm training for a new ship, I make sure I have all relevant skills at 3 or 4 before considering maxing anything out. The only exceptions are skills that unlock other important skills, or T2 modules.

If you are a primary drone user, it is essential.

Goes well with my Gekos and Rattlesnakes (I have three in total, with two alts also with durability 5 trained).

I'd suggest that if you mainly use drones for PVE then yes as a few extra seconds when your drone is primary from npc's will help you rescoop and redeploy more easily.

If you mainly use drones for fleet PVP it is less useful. But for small gang / solo pvp then it becomes more useful again.

I have it to 3 but will max it out when I eventually get to my drone remap.
