AFK Cloaking Question

Not here to debate if its good or bad. I am just curious if anyone has ever seen a post by CCP that says anything about this issue.

That post-article-something could be saying they think its good, or bad. It could also say they plan on changing it, or will never change it. Also any article/stuff that even mentions it in passing, showing they know it exists, even if they dont have an opinion would be good.

Oh and lastly, also would like to see anything that says anything about making new tech to detect, or enhance, the ability to afk cloak. Obviously to enhance it would mean they would need to make afk cloakers somehow findable in the first place.

Thanks in advance.

No, not that I can recall. But then CCP hasn't posted on AFK in a Station, AFK inside POS shields, or AFK in a very fast moving cap stable ship either.

They have commented on Local Chat before. They want to change it, but that's been put on the back burner like so many other things.

I think it's unlikely CCP see afking as an invalid gameplay style. Most of us afk quite a lot, especially those of us with more than one character. Sometimes I'll be doing something on my pc (eg watching a film) while in the background a character is afk autopiloting across high sec and over on my laptop a character is cloaked on a gate doing nothing. Am I afk? I'm physically at the keyboard but on CCP's end there's no way to tell where in my home I am sitting.

All sorts of game elements support afk play including FOF missiles, Drone-based mission runners, distribution missions, mining, gas mining, manufacturing and more. In pvp sometimes the best defence is to cloak in a safe and go afk. I logged off recently when I knew someone was hunting me but I was in a safe. They managed to scan me down before the ship disappeared and I woke up in my pod. Since then if I think someone might be hunting me and I'm cloaked in a safe I'll wait for a few hours or until downtime.

I think the problem you may have is the disruption caused by reds preventing carebearing in nullsec. Is that why you're asking? If so:

1) Dangerous space. You're there because it's dangerous, that's why you get more reward.

2) Local is a rather lame method of self-defence and CCP has been promising to look into it for years. It may one day get altered.

3) Out-manouvre them. Carebear in another system that doesn't have a red in it. Put a prototype cloak on your Raven and be ready to warp to a safe. You should be able to outmanouvre an afk person.

4) Bait them out and kill them. Pod them. Convo them afterwards to taunt them and feast on their tears. No one expects Hulks with points.

Not totally related, and I am sure discussed elsewhere, but after some time in w-space, I would love to see local modified for null space (or even low-sec). Maybe notifications when someone enters the system and who it is (the SG sends out a local 'ping', so to speak). Same when they leave the system; however, if you just log in to the game, you would not know who is in system w/o scanning (and not even then if they are cloaked). You could check who is in the stations, ofc. You would not be notified if they logged on or off.

This would make null a lot more 'unknown', to both the wanna be afk cloaker and the residents of the system. Also make directional scanner more useful again....

D-scan is my favorite tool in w-space. Effortless intel in the form of instant local is just wrong.

My favorite parts of the d-scan are when people don't rename their ship. In that split instant of me getting them on scan I already have all the info I need to counter them. Of course, the part where they warp right into an escalation with several caps and site running ships on grid is fun too...

Forgive me if i'm missing this: but what if afk fly cloaked in a random direction, at 300ms, even if he takes 15mins to scan you down, how will he ever decloak you? Does scanning give you a direct warp to the ships current position? Even so the cloaky would still be far away after the time it takes for you to warp to him...

My favorite part is when I name my ship using another character's name, so people can make foolish assumptions Twisted
