Hi,

I've been playing the game for a few months now, trying a bit of everything and I'm looking more into manufacturing, I've already read up on what skills I need and I have a clear path of what I'm doing with them but my main issue is where do I start after gaining skills, I'm not asking what I should make/sell .

Do I have to be in a corporation to make use of manufacturing ?

Can I mine some of the materials and buy the rest to save ISK ?

Do I have produce my item in a certain place (not sure if that makes sense)

I'm mainly going to be in high sec, is this going to cause a problem ?

Any help would be grateful :)

No.

Yes.

Kinda. Only stations that have manufacturing plants. Most stations do have them, so you shouldn't worry much.

Some systems are more economical to build in than others.

Worse, you can't save ISK doing that.

The minerals you mine are worth the same amount whether you sell them or manufacture something with them.

Manufacturing is a value-added business. So you should also expect more ISK than just the value of your minerals.

Never sell manufactured goods at or below the cost of the materials! If something isn't profitable, don't build it in the first place!

Do the math ahead of time. Don't forget all the costs of building and selling either.

The minerals you mine are worth what you can sell them for. The minerals you buy from the market are worth what you can sell them for.

Mining is one of the lowest income activities you can engage in, so economically speaking, any time you spend mining would be better spent on almost anything else.

Stick to high sec at first. Just find any station with factory facilities and use that. Later, once you know your way around, you'll be able to select a better station for your needs, but right now it isn't worth worrying about.

No. It's probably the "safest" place to start.

Without material research most items or ships you make will actually cost more in materials than the finished item is worth.

You need to check the cost index of the system you build in, the higher it is the higher the taxes on your product so your looking for the smaller percentages.

No, but there is a third way - start your own corporation. Worked for me!
Being a corporation gives you extra hangers and makes Spreadsheet stock control much easier. On the downside you have to pay Rent if you are in an NPC station, it makes you more visible and open to War Declares

Yes, but as others have pointed out minerals have a market value. If you use them to manufacture items that have less value, then you are being silly. That there are presently lots of miners doing this does not mean you should!

Consider PI as a way to capitalise on "passive" income that can link to manufacturing.

I say "passive" as you still need to reset extractors and haul PI materials, but with 3 toons per account this can be a nice sideline.

While there are MUCH more profitable ways to spend your time in terms of ISK/hour, this isn't a bad entry point for an industry noob.
