But will it always be this slow? My god I already want the old pages back. I was able to load 4 oldstyle pages in the time it takes this new design to open just one Cry

I'm excited! Got my tablet charged up for an entire night of eve wiki browsing.

But now that this is out there.. when can we expect moar chronicles? I know you just released a quick sucession of chronicles, but the "final" one ended on a cliffhanger and i sure hope we don't have to wait until the summer exp to find out more.. only to end in another cliffhanger.

Good job CCP, really good job. Congrats to the Mercury team also.

I'm a happy RPer today Smile

Please please please, fill in the religion for gallente if you can, add more description as to how the Intaki and Mannar (and once upon a time caldari) were integrated in the Federation... and most importanyl how does the districts and democracy behave in modern federation.

This is by far the most content-rich feature you guys have in the EvE IP.

Immersion is vital for EVE. Otherwise it is just a glorified X-wing with worse controls.

I F_ING LOVE CHRONICLES AND IMMERSION ! P

Now if you can just get the thing to work again, little details like being able to log in and so on Twisted Bigger Font PLEASE

This sounds really cool, and from what I'm seeing, it looks cool. It has always been a pain to just browse this stuff. Sometimes I like to make a snack and then just sit down and read setting info and lore in a game (such as Mass Effect, Dragon Age, the Elder Scrolls series), but this has never really been practical in EVE. Sad

I've been thinking for a while now that there should be in a kind of "immersion" portal where you can go and then click around and read info without leaving that in-universe or in-character world. I want to be able to look up something in-game and find in-world info about it and then click links and more links and not see anything indicating that I'm playing a game, just like if my character was accessing the GalNet and looking up info.

In other words, if I go to the in-world info portal and look at, say, the new tier 3 battlecruisers, I should see see info about them and their development history, but not that they were added in the Crucible expansion in 2011. That info should be available somewhere, but not from within the "immersion" portal. I'd also like in-world news articles and all sorts of things, but not "extended downtime" or whatever mixed in. Basically, any link I click from inside the "immersion" portal should only ever take me to another "immersion-safe" page. Also, any stories there should be info that a regular person with GalNet access should be able to find out, not things that only two people in the (EVE) universe know about.

What I'd really love is to see info on virtually everything--every settled planet, every system, every region, all sorts of technology, corporation history, etc. Mass Effect is a great example, where the in-game codex combined with the info for each and every planet provide a huge amount of info/lore. I realize that EVE is much bigger and providing a similar level of detail would be a massive undertaking, but I think it's an ideal to strive for, even if it's never actually reached.

First off, thank you!

Second, PICTURES! Text gives nipple stimulation, pictures are like a threesome. Shocked

Third, I have to agree with Destination Skillqueue and darkdooku, I think the in-game connection matters more than anything else.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that an out-of-game portal exists and I'm even happier that it is the definitive place for canon information.

However, I think EVE immersion problems have never been about the fact that the lore did not exist. The problem is that it has never existed IN THE GAME in any meaningful or easy-to access way. How are you supposed to get immersed in a game when the sources of immersion aren't, ya know, IN THE GAME.

For example, if I do a show info on a ship, why isn't there an easy way to link into little nuggets of related information like crew, propulsion, pods, and such. It needs to touch and flow right along-side gameplay otherwise it will never immerse the players.

I want to be immersed.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I'll be monitoring this thread for further ideas on what to do with the Immersion Project (and I'm incredibly happy that everyone seems to like what we've done so far! Big smile). You can always add more ideas in the coming weeks or months by posting on the Fiction forum.

It might please you to know that half of what has been suggested so far is actually already on our drawing board, in one version or another. For instance, Kyra Felann's idea about an immersion portal might -- might -- one day find its way into reality through your monitors in the CQs. And the ideas about providing everything with info - planets, systems, etc - is something I've been strongly pushing for. No guarantees, but y'know.

It might also please you to know that I celebrated all this by going on Xmas vacation, and just now mixed a mean cocktail for the two bipedals in this house. It's about 20% and you can down it like soda.

Oh, one more thing: An in-game connection is definitely on our to-do list. But it will require careful design and programming support, so we won't be rushing it. What I can promise you is regular wiki updates, along with a sloooow but certain push toward a more integrated in-game presence.

This point - that an in-game connection is desirable but not a necessity for the Immersion Project - is actually a rather important one once you realize that it works both ways: Anything not purely wiki-based (in-game interfaces, added functionality, images (sorry, Riffix)) requires more effort from more people and is thus harder to push through ... but by the same token, anything that's purely a textual update, such as more wiki articles, requires no support at all other than editing. I was very careful when designing the Immersion Project to separate the text work as much as possible from everything else, which means that once we've gotten a bit more cohesion in the Storyline team (some people are moving to Iceland, and we're still sorting out our future projects), we'll be in a position where we can release more official lore in less time than ever before. We don't have to wait for someone in Art to draw a picture, or someone in Programming to fix up an interface, or someone in Web to work out the kinks in our site backend.

So one of the things we'll have to decide in the near-ish future is what part of the lore to tackle next. What do you guys want to see?

OK, dipped my toe into the portal ... and had to exert supreme willpower to avoid having my day sucked away without me noticing.

This is freaking awesome. EVE needs and deserves all this detail on the New Eden backdrop. Thank you Abraxis, Mercury, Torfi and CCP for aspiring to be world builders and not just game designers.

Well, I applaud your enthusiasm and conviction to always improve and add missing or related content yet you somehow always seem to forget Murphy's Law - If it works, don't mess with it.

I'm talking about the changes to the Evelopedia lay-out. There was nothing wrong with the old format. The new format has now broken some of the links on page that leads to other Evelopedia pages. Using the Eve Gate format now makes the text font very small producing eye strain and compacts the overall page due to the empty borders on each side. This equates to more work just to view the page. Also I just don't understand why everything takes so long to load up now. This is unacceptable and needs to be addressed asap.

These issues will discourage players from viewing the Evelopedia. In my opinion it's now less 'User Friendly' compared to how it used to be.

Took me quite a while just to find the search option. Also I don't see the 'Edit' option anywhere. Guess that will show up when we're able to Log into the site.

Lately I've been getting more and more disappointed with all of the surprise 'Untested' changes that always ends up breaking existing content. Just exactly how many 'Fix it' patches are needed per each Expansion launch? I liked it much better back when CCP only did one Expansion per year which usually only required a couple of 'Fix it' patches afterwards.

Needless to say, I'm not a very happy camper right now.

One question, regarding salvage drones and the vampire

WHEN?

Really there are numerous references to both drones in several articles.

And all the info on sleepers currently buried on the forum... couldnt find it

Some of my "further ideas" see here

I would add... maybe some technical stuff... but I dont know if it is your domain (domain, here in meaning of "range of action"P).

  • Switch from log in Charakter to another Charakter.
  • Is their a new Category tree?... (and most likely a typo in the Ni-Kunni page, be more precisley the Category is currently Amarr, should be Amarr Empire).
  • NPC Corp pages, Lp Stores and NPC Agent pages. Long stupid copy & past work, really... but is their anything on the pipe?
  • (currently I have just those: "Khanid Innovation (NPC corporation) LP Store" and "Khanid Innovation (NPC corporation) Agents". I havent change the black to 303030, will come some times later... I hopeLol). But is their anything what will maybe come... because making them can be really none joyful.
  • Needs a rework: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Item_Database:Skills:Social so that I can change some of my links in the LP Store pages:
  • Error on thumbnail of pics... for example: the "Emperor Family (NPC corporation)" page or here.
  • Categorys dont show up as sup-category in the major category. But I dont If CCP and Yarr will keep them.
  • Some pages are now their two times like "Emperor" and "Amarr Emperor" (which is actually nice... so it easier for me to test and change the chartSmile.. So please let the two versions). But I think most likley their are more pages which are their two times, thru copy past of the old pedia.... which brings most likely a time frame which hasnt the latest modifications.

Happy Holidays CCP and all players, and really nice work on the wiki and immersion project. Love all the new stuff.

P.S. What is with the pig?P

I would love to have those classes ingame. See here:

Since I still walk against the SSL error, I will post it here:

Broken Page, the page linked has a layout that overlaps. So its not readable at all.

Lets add this one: Link, the images of interbus and a few others are not loaded properly.

TorfiFrans, our Creative Director, called me into a room, pointed to a whiteboard and proceeded to draw a sprawling green web on its surface. He explained that we needed to refocus our fiction efforts so that they'd be more accessible to our playerbase

I must say the recent chronicles are a step down in writing quality compared to the old ones. Very sad to hear it is a deliberate dumbing down to accommodate the average semi-literate player and to fill a simple utilitarian role explaining game changes.

Thank you so much for this work, Abraxas, and thank you for not invalidating my Lorebook collection just yet.

Here are a few things I have noticed so far.

The ships of the Sisters of EVE are piloted by xaptains (and assistant xaptains)? Likely a double typo but could be a special title within SoE too.

W-space is in a distant galaxy? I bet most people were of the impression that w-space was not THAT far away. More like in another star cluster near New Eden.

Where is Santimona Sarpati? She is even mentioned in multiple chronicles and is a fairly interesting character.
