care to get some devs in and answer some more threads? pls

I'll see what I can do. Drop me a line if you have any special requests. There's probably a few less dev comments right now because a lot of people are travelling home for Christmas or taking time off. But we've got good things planned for January ;)

Nah, they are playing SWTOR also.

+1 for Guild Wars.. so many people didn't realize how great this game is because you couldn't jump.. aside from content.. it is a far far more innovative game than WOW from a gameplay perspective and the sequel looks like it fixes all the problems with the first game.. looks like it's gonna drop like an atom bomb.

Indeed, even if it doesn't have sandbox elements, I expect GW2 to be hell of a fun game to explore. It's a themepark MMO but it's a highly dynamic one. As far as I'm concern, gameplay wise, SWTOR is at least 5 years too late to the party.

Yes, it's what SWG always wanted to be.

Pretty sad.

ToR has some great stuff in it...

The nicely done movies.
The saber combat in the movies... oh wait...

IMO, the only good part of ToR were the trailers and opening movie. The rest was pretty meh.

Am i delusional or is this affecting eve population seriously?

Many are likely to return. SWTOR is not EVE, and EVE is not SWTOR. The two games have little in common, and appeal to different audiences. Sure there is the "it has lasers"-thing, but in the long run, EVE is a sandboxy type game where SWTOR is a more managed ride driven along by a combination of story and gameplay. EVE does have missions, but they do not (generally) send you across the galaxy holding you hand most of the way. SWTOR is more modern in that it knows it has to sell well among a wider range of customers.

What I do not understand is the terrible job CCP have done the last 2-3 years. From my perspective EVE is almost ready to fall into the SWG trap - dumbing down the death penalty and changing the mechanics to hide the fact that the back-end is incompatible with modern multi-core system.

I can understand why people who play EVE want to try SWTOR. They are likely to be Sci-fi fans, and at least a few of them will hide a secret desire to chop things to bits with "photon blades." Most will quickly notice the "theme park ride"-feeling one can get from "WoW"-type MMOs, but to be fair, it appears to have been very nicely done in SWTOR. The real question is:

"SWTOR killing WoW?" Unlikely, but the game does have a lot of small features that WoW could use, and Blizzard need to step it up to win some of them back. I ran into a lot of WoW players in SWTOR beta, and (it seems) even more in pre-launch/launch. Did bump in to a few EVE players, but the sharded nature of SWTOR (something I do not like in game design,) makes it difficult to judge.

On the server ques. It is worth noting that two EU servers are usually heavily congested. I was on "Bloodworthy" and that had 1h45m two days before official launch, so I changed servers. The two servers whose names got posted on a lot online are the ones with silly-lenght ques. All of the other eu servers have no ques or less than ten minutes (even last evening at launch.)

/TLDR: No, but blizzard should take notes

SWTOR sucks quite a bit, as far as I've heard and as far as I've played the beta...

And the real problem with it is that progression is very, very limited... Sure you can have many chars, but is that really fun? Start over and over and over again with nothing? Not sure.

They'll be back... Everyone comes back to the best online drug in existance. It's just a matter of dangling the carrot a bit, like the next expansion with ponies or something :)

Hungry mutant ninja rainbow is going to invade Jita and make the servers go mushroom mushroom.
That will be the last day of EvE.
I have spoken.

Wow in the costume of Jabba the Hutt? Eve has no competitor, though I'd love to see one emerge...

EVE will never die unless another game EXACTLY like it but better in some way comes out or CCP kills it with something that messes up EVERYTHING. No MMO out there is like EVE, it's why we all play it and why we'll all keep coming back to it for the foreseeable future.

I refuse to play another game that makes me QUEST to level up. EVE and FFXI did it right and are my favorite mmos of all time.

You never know... perhaps in future you need to quest in planets to level up your advanced planetary interaction skill set while protecting your installations from some horrible vampire infection which has turned you to one also... ?

Not a gamer here. Eve is the only thing like it i've put any time into since i put away the Nintendo in the early 90's.
I read threads like these as a short glimpse of another world, like a documentary on trainspotters or stamp collectors.

How about the 58 days old, 77 pages long WiS thread?
