I asked my roommates what their motivations were for the look of their femmes, and they both said basically the same thing: they played with it until deciding 'welp, that's as good as that's gonna get."

Ha!

I actually rolled this character back before Incarna, when races affected your attributes, so that's probably why I went out of my way to break the mold.

Great thread!

That's really nice work - loads of personality. I can certainly see where you are coming from when you say you characters tell you how they think and feel. I'm starting to think my portraits are a bit bland.

I always seem to screw up the eyes for example and never notice until after I've finished. Did the same with this one but I'm not that bothered with this character because all she does is research.

Not sure what you mean about the eyes being screwed up. They look pretty good to me.

I made the pilot resemble the main character of the computer game "Aquaria".

Yeah? Not Chad Kroeger?

A good general rule for eye placement is as low and far back into the head as possible. Achura faces especially have that asian thing going on where the eye sockets aren't particularly deep. Kinda funny how it's accurate to irl but you miss out on a lot of character in the facial shadows that way.

As for width of the eyes, the corners of the mouth should typically fall right in the center of the pupils. The nose should be as wide as the bridge between the eyes. You can play with this, of course.

The "correct" vertical placement of the eyes is right in the middle, but when the eyes and facial features are lower than center, it looks more youthful. Men too, not just women. Examples of men with below-center eyes are Matt Damon, and Bradd Pitt. Mark Wahlberg, Leonardo DiCaprio. As for women, pretty much all of the Victoria's Secret models have eyes and facial features slightly below typical. Miranda Kerr is the best example out of them.

The supposed psychology behind this is that babies and adolescents naturally have disproportionately large heads, so their facial features are grouped tighter in relation to the overall dimensions of the head. When adults have this going on, their faces register as adolescent (and therefore youthful), despite being older. Throughout their years, even.

When I created this avatar I made her look like most female pilots I've known in RL. Most of them are fairly attractive, but their day to day look is ruled far more by practicality than fashion.

this.

i spent way more time on my male main. i post with this char and wanted a distinct "look".

sometimes i think i went a little crazy with the makeup. definetly my first time.

i have also spent hundreds of millions on accesories that i have decided i dont like as much as my original look.

Very interesting. I hadn't thought about it like that, but it makes a ton of sense.

Just the guys who make girls, now. When you make that girl do you make

a.) The girl of your dreams. Meaning it'd be a dream come true if she were real and ... actually would speak to you?

b.) The girl who got away...because she ran a helluva lot faster than you?

c.) A close approximation of mumsy at age 18?

d.) Your neighbor's wife...the one with marksmanship experience?

e.) YOUR wife, girlfriend or sister?

Thanks for responding. This has had me curious for a very l o n g time.

f.) None of the above.

The character creater imposes very strict limits to what you can or can't do with your avatar face (and body). Rain already pointed that out. This means - more or less - that you simply can't pursue any of the options given in the OP, even if you wanted to. What you can do, is try to make your character look pretty (or in some cases try to make it not look ugly).

Since I'm not an artist like Rain, I use(d) a more technical approach. I created frontal and lateral Marquardt Beauty Mask overlays in GIMP. Then I made screenshots while being in the character creation process, loaded them into GIMP and used the overlays to determine where I needed to make adjustments.

After being done with the bone structure, the next important thing is make up. Do not underestimate what you can accomplish by applying some color to your face. Especially eyeliner and shadow can really help to give some depth. I think I don't need to mention that make up options are really limited, too (I'd like to see some metallic tones, especially gold, silver and bronze among other things).

(And while we're at it, I would like to see some more options for hairstyles, too. Big smile)

Last not least is posture and light. It is possible to enhance or hide certain aspects that way. With regard to posture I used some professional celeb phots as inspiration.

All this might sound like a lot of work, but it actually isn't as bad as it seems (especially once you have the overlays ready). My favorite creation is this one: https://image.eveonline.com/character/92978327_1024.jpg. Probably would have made her my main, if not for the 30M SP difference between her and my actual main at the time of creation. Cool

My science alt lives in a sterile white lab surrounding, and spends her days in a white lab coat, so I wanted her to stand out in that environment and regardless of what she was wearing. There isn't a decent ginger colour, so I went with lots of black.

Speaking of the okaseki sisters (commissar kate, colonel selene), especially kate.. she is as some players know, the hottest avatar I've ever seen.

It's also worth noting that some faces aren't possible anymore. Kate's is among them. When I redid 8, the restrictions on chin height had changed, and I wasn't able to draw the chin up to the old height.

A basic rule about female chins (aesthetically speaking, irl / in general) is softer is feminine, and square is masculine. Softer jawlines were possible in the past, but not anymore.

I'm not sure if CCP periodically adjusts the restrictions per race, to ensure variety over time, but unless the chin thing is allowed again, a Commissar Kate clone (and 7's face, which I never retouched), are simply impossible now.

This is 8's old face. It really, really hurts to admit this, but I miss it a lot. I don't even bother asking for help from CCP because I know changing it is practically impossible, for the technical attention required and the settings being lost forever, more than likely.

I'm kind of sad now.

I'd like to add that Kate's and Selene's skin tones are no longer available to Achura either. They got removed when CCP made the skin tones persistent across all the races/bloodlines. I never intend to change them either as they are relics from the old system.

Oh yes. My pre-Incarna girls also have those "legacy" skintones. Yiole haves a creamy white which can't be found nowhere in the current ones, and Ishtanchuk's and Indahmawar's redish hue was totally removed from the creator. These old types just look better than the new ones, for some reason.

It's not that the new tones are bad, though. I learned with the Focks that they are quite realistic... To make up them, I learned that black people have both cold and warm skin types, so women must bear that in mind when making up, and the CC actually reflects it. Matilda Cecilia haves a cold skin type, meaning that when you look carefully at it, it is more blue than yellow or red, and so warm make up patterns look better on her than cold ones. a ncie touch.

It is very unlikely that I ever change the make up for the Focks, though, as the CC lacks like half the palette needed to make up darker skins... as someone pointed above, the absence of metal colors is noticeable, and also the fact that there are no violets of any kind.

This is another one of my fierce black chicks. I actually ended up liking this character so much I saved her from her designated alt hauler status and transferred her to another account and am currently considering making her my main.

Even though there are some serious limitations to the Eve character creator (all Amarr men look old and mean, all Gallente - Gallente men look like brothers etc.) you can still create some works of art so it makes me happy to see people who have put a little effort into creating something interesting. Whether it is something beautiful or something scary and mean looking. Or fierce. Like a drag queen.

First, thanks ISD Dorrim Barstorlode for reopening the thread.. I couldn't understand why it was closed in the first place..

I didn't spend an excess amount of time making my toons. I mean more than 5min, but less than 15.. not counting when I got them their clothing :p Gotta dress up my Spaceship Barbie's.

As I said earlier, just a bunch of hitting random till I saw something I liked.. maybe a tweak here or there (generally to hair), and then off to the races.

For the record, Gallente (Race) women look best imho :p Never had one of them fail me lol.

Since forever I play video games I always picked female characters, not for any of those reasons.

But for the simple fact that they are a lot more pleasant and interesting to look at.

Depending on the game and kind of character I choose a different personality and looks.

Its got nothing to do with ANY of what you said.

For example I have 8 female blood elves in world of watercraft 6 of them level 100.

The other reason why I don't like to pick a male character is because I would feel extremely gay.

The only male character I ever had was a paladin in Diablo II .. or games with no other choice.
