Hello all

I've been gone a while but when I last played a player owned research facility at a starbase didn't cost any isk. Now that i'm back, it still costs just as much to run as it does in station. Is there something wrong with my setup or is it just how it is now. If it is just how it is, why did this change?

Stations cost 10% more (NPC tax). POS are faster, and require slightly less materials. [Note that the proposed stacking reduction for multiple POS arrays was not implemented, because it was too easy to exploit.]

Start here (in order):

Part 1: Reprocess all the things!
Part 2: Building better Worlds
Part 3: Researching, the Future
Part 4: The Price of Change
Part 5: Industry UI
Part 6: Team Up: Industry Work Teams
Delivering the Industry New Eden deserves
Starbase changes for Crius
EVE Industry - All you want to know

Lighting the invention bulb
Invention updates in Phoebe
Industry & Teams - The Removal of Teams

Patch Notes for Crius

Note that you've missed several expansions since Crius: Hyperion, Oceanus, Phoebe, Rhea (current)

This is helpful to a new player like myself too.

I had read articles about the "old research" and was disheartened upon reading that the limited slots would effectively lock me out. The new system is great. Not only is it available but I have a choice. Today I ventured down to low sec to start some research!

R&D is still 3 months but I've managed to set up the agents now. I gleamed over that they broke up the Mechanical Engineering monopoly, I'll take a deeper look in a 3 months to find out which path I should take.

I think it is safe to claim that the majority of industrialist don't bother with research agents, and just buy datacores off the market.

Faction warfare is the source of the vast majority of datacores now.

I've not collected my datacores in 2.8 years. It just isn't worthwhile.

The "old research" didn't really lock people out. You could produce in all the same places as now, at considerably lower cost, but you had to wait longer for your jobs to finish.

There were always open low-sec slots available under the "old research" system, so given you went to low-sec anyway, the biggest difference between old and new is that you paid more to use the new system.

If you haven't already got R&D agents, don't bother setting them up. It takes years before an R&D agent makes enough RP for it to be worth cashing them in. The effort setting them up is better spent on something else.
