Yes indeed! I could go for a giant, ridiculous gibus, or a Soviet-like peaked visor cap. Or a fruit hat.

Or a spiked Kaiser helmet that adds emphasis to Sansha ships!

I seem like it would be more work to make it broken like this than it would be to make the final render exactly like in the portrait-maker-thing.

The physical simulation is done client-side. But they can't simply let the client do a screen capture, and send that to the server, because people would hack it and inject naughty pictures its place. So the server takes a summery of the user's settings and does a rendering server-side. But they don't want to spend the CPU cycles doing a full simulation on the server. Instead, they do an approximation with static meshes, and we get this. (This is my own hypothesis.)

But really, how may people are making portraits every second? They should have just whacked the client code into a little rendering program that renders the image (EXACTLY as the client does it) into a back buffer and saves it.

i mean surely it cant be THAT hard to let it upload the picture to the server... Having the server render it in parallel would probably be trickier to pull off...

Assuming noone hax his client to get truely bizarre pictures in and that should be detectable somehow...

They probably don't trust our computers with our portraits because someone would figure out how to hack extra naughty things into them, or maybe a driver glitch/hack will cause all your clothes to disappear. Oops?

I take it you are aware that a few years ago we the players went to war with CCP because they wanted to turn our game of 'blowing up spaceships' into a game of 'dressing up dolls'

As long as my Ken Doll has a Viking helmet and a long braided beard, I will happily go back to saving beautiful women and valuable riches from burning ships.

I dunno i went to war with CCP because they wanted me to pay INFINITE MONEY for my barbie clothing... That was a bigger problem for me then the dress-up part...

Feels, Sista. Straight

And again, once more into the air with feeling. Just like my braids.

Up to the top, just like my crop.

In the air, like our hair.

Encountered this yet again while making this character. Sure, I can turn off the effect in the creator to see how awkward it will look afterward, but that's not very inspirational. Let's give the feature new life and true purpose - allow the beauty of physically simulated hair to shine in our portraits.

While on one hand I would love to see this feature implemented, I feel like the physically simulated part is preventing CCP from rolling out more avatar gear. In the roundtable I remember them complaining a bit about weighting the different pieces. I'd be ok with them scrapping it entirely if it meant more content at some point. They haven't released a single hair variant that's been weighted since Incarna (the emo cut, Amarr halo, and Gallente... thing?).

It's not so much a feature or really an implementation.

Just a change to how rendered portraits appear.

I mean that is a feature. It would probably require someone or even a few people a few weeks of time to implement. It's not like CCP has a switch on the server they flip (BUT WHAT IF THEY DID? ):).

That's the thing, I guess. Beyond speculating, nobody really knows what's involved or why it doesn't already render in this way (server catches it in this way, just doesn't render it).

I'd like to see it changed, prior to more styles being implemented. Already enough awkward looking folks around with twisted or distorted hair. Don't want to make it even worse! Big smile

Still an issue that could do with a response or a fix. Smile
