Hello,
As I play more and more, I have come to love missiles and working on the Caldari battlecruisers unlocks. What I would like to know if I go the Drake route, what kind of missiles should I use? (cruise, torpedoes, etc) Thank you for your help.

It depends what you are going to be doing with said drake ;-)

I want PVP but most of the time we are just killing rats. So something in the middle if possible. If not then PVP.

On a Drake, you're going to fit one of the following missile systems:

  • Heavy Assault Missiles = Higher DPS & Close Range engagements
  • Heavy Missiles = Lower DPS but has a Longer Engagement Range, most preferred on PVE fits
  • Rapid Light Missile Launchers = Higher Effective DPS on Smaller Targets, Used for Anti-Support in Fleet

Cruise missiles and torpedos are really reserved for battleship platforms like the Raven.

Hope that helps.

For PvP? Fly a Caracal with Rapid Lights instead. A Drake is going to have a lot of trouble doing damage to targets. You have no application bonuses, so Heavy Missiles aren't going to hit very hard against anything you're likely to encounter, and you are also very slow with no range bonuses, so it's going to be difficult for you to stay in range to use HAMs effectively. You don't get any bonuses to Rapid Lights at all, so you will have depressing damage output with mediocre range.

Conversly, an RLML Caracal can put out respectable damage to 60km with great application and is also a mobile enough combatant to keep up with dynamic skirmishes.

HAM if you plan to stay within point range. HML if you plan to kite or pve. RLML have a long reload time, but is great against frigs/destroyers.

With the drake i would go HAM for pvp.

EDIT: and this post should probably be in Ships & Modules
