mandatory, actually.

files are encrypted and so it needs steamworks to decrypt.

Afterwards however you don't need to be online to run skyrim. Just run it from the Steamapps/skyrim folder and you're good.

Stupid steam sale... I dont want to buy civ 5 and dlc for real cheap... I already have no life due to skyrim, BF3, and eve.
