Hello folks,

Being curious and liking the fact of making money I decided to try Station Trading on an alt. Since I am quite noobish on EvE (played around 2 months max so far) I have some questions if you don't mind :D

1) Where do items come from ? Who is filling my buy order ?

I did few L2/L3 missions and I remember seeing several Meta Drops (2/3/4 mostly). Should I assume most, if not all, my buy orders are filled by those type of drops ?
Last night I had a buy order of some T2 missiles. Afaik you can't drop T2 missiles, so did someone decided to sold them to me underpriced for the pure pleasure of cleaning his item hangar ? Same question about T2 modules kinda :D
What about skillbooks ? I put some low price buy order for skillbooks, far lower than the price at which they are sold by NPC, and people are still selling me those books o.O

2) Will I ever need skills beside the followings ?

I intend to only do station trading so far. I started at Dodixie since I didn't feel quite confident playing with the sharks in Jita at start.
I was going to learn those skills :

- Accounting
- Broker Relations
- Trade / Retail / Wholesale / Tycoon

Also, is Margin Trading really useful ? It seemed to be mostly a scam-skill for me.

3) So far I simply buy items and resell them. It seems quite straightforward. Anything else to know beside the fact I need to scale up the quantities ?

4) Is there any good blogs about traders in EvE or people simply nice enough to explain what they are doing and how they are doing things ? I failed at finding something like an index of all blogs, or a place on the forum where people advertise their blogs.

Thank you anyone Big smile

1) You really need to research individual items here.
Tech 2 goods are made cheaply by T2 BPOs (by a small number of players) and more expensively by inventors, they are also looted in PVP (starship combat, POS bashing and market manipulation are all PVP). They are quite often in the hands of people that want to sell them.

2) You will also want standings with the station that you are trading at, good standings can get your effective Broker Relations skill level way higher than 5. 'Social' helps you earn standings, as do PVE focused combat skills.
Margin Trading is *essential* for trading. I don't do margin scamming on this character, but I have (right now) 6 or 7 billion ISK worth of quite speculative buy orders listed. These are unlikely to fill but if they do, they will make me a lot of ISK.
Location based trading skills can be useful too (Daytrading/Marketing/Visibility). I swear by these skills, others think they are unnecessary.
Contracting is essential as well, so that you can outsource hauling.

3) Moving items can be a big part of trading. Don't move them yourself, pay useful idiots to do it for you. Let them take the risk while you take the profit.

Generalizing a bit - aside T2, ships, ammo, drones ? - from drops and LP shops.

T1, T2, meta 0-4 is usally the worst stuff to trade (surprising exceptions apply, but not many of them). Sure volume is gigantic but so is the amount of people babysitting the orders, not mentioning razor thin margins.

Real ISK is in faction/deadspace/implants (far better for sanity as well) and ... some other stuff (find it yourself) =) You need decent starting point for that (few hundreds of millions at least) though, so until then you will suffer with more common junk.

Get Evernus and Elinor to help with trading (note: Evernus has builting margin tool - but it derps for me regularly so I keep using Elinor).

Possibly Social V to grind standings with (presumably) caldari faction and caldari navy corporation. Get contracts to 3 as well.
There're corporations selling standings grind as well, you might want to contact them at some point in the future.

It helps enormously at the beginning. When you start operating with tens of billions - not that much anymore. Get it to 3, more is not that important.

Well:
- look how many people (and quantity they want) are averagly fighting over the item for last few hours vs. how much volume goes per day
- look if buy and sell orders are relatively balanced (yellow dots), and if donchian channel looks sensible
- use quickbar, love quickbar (and hate its primitivism sometimes)

Traders are greedy, I don't think we want more competent competition in Jita ;) j/k

Google can find anything worthwile easily (as well as some youtube vids). Eve uni has some sensible material iirc.
