Should I Blow Up a POS or Train Up a Freighter Alt?

I have a market for compressed low-grade ore coming out of the trade hub of [REDACTED]. Margins are only decent if I do my own ore compression.

My highsec alt has the skills for flying a Miasmos (~55,000m3) and could possibly fly an Orca with an extra week of training. He is able to set up a compression POS at a free moon in [REDACTED2], one jump away from the trade hub.

I'm finding that ore compression runs require too many clicks and trips for the amount of ISK I'm making at the moment. I need to make the trips shorter (fewer clicks) or bigger (higher volumes).

Should I ...

Train my highsec alt into frieghters
  • One Freighter: 1,300m
  • One plex for a month of dual training: 780m
  • One month of waiting

Blow up someone elses (hopefully offline) POS
  • POS bashing merc fee: 100m-150m(?)
  • Tower upgrade costs and ongoing fuel costs and if there is a retaliatingy wardec on alt's my mini-corp
  • Eventually upgrade to an Orca: 700m

Forget industry for a while and go back to ratting.

Save the merc fee.

1. Create a temp corp.

2. Send a note to the CEO of the offline tower. If no response in a week, you are golden. Feel free to spam several different corps.

3. Wardec. Blow-up offline tower. Cap stable oracles are great, as are laser or drone boats.

4. When tower explodes, have an alt not in wardec corp, but in tower corp, and with anchoring 1 trained, anchor the tower. Must be able to pilot an industrial to carry tower, and have roles to anchor tower.

5. Leave wardec corp and join tower corp. Wardec corp will permanently be closed.

A few friends, or alts helps.

A friend destroyed a medium tower "solo" using a Dominix, and two new account alts in faction-pimped Coercer destroyers as that was fastest to train. The tower popped about 3 hours before downtime.

I've destroyed a small with the help of about 3 others. I think it took about 3 hours. We had a pulse apoch doing most of the damage, a torp Raven, and two drakes.

Don't destroy my offline compression & reprocessing tower. Blink I only online it when I need it, which is for only about 2-3 hours at a time. It is a small tower, so it takes about 8 minutes to online. Fuel cost is negligible. I of course accept the risk of losing the tower and two modules.

Using a temp corp is a good idea - I'd kind of forgotten that a wardec cuts both ways for at least a week, so any new tower would be at greater risk if anchored by the wardec-ing corp.

I have low skilled miner alts in accounts I was going to shut down. I'll see if it makes sense to give them a crash course in Medium/Large Lasers and Amarr Superiority for a week or so. (All my corp mates are stuck in null and will probably be getting hit by copious amounts of 'content' soon.)

Thanks for the advice - I should be able to avoid targeting any towers with "Retirement Retreat" stencilled on the side Smile

My corp specializes in offline hisec tower removal. Feel free to contact me in-game if you'd like an estimate, but the prices reflected in your OP are in the right ballpark for a small tower. I will need to know what kind and size of tower it is and where it is located. We treat all client information as confidential and we have a long track record of successful tower kills. Feel free to search us on zkillboard. (I'd link here, but they're generally not allowed in this section.)

Having said that, Tau's post is pretty much spot on. Taking down a "dead" tower (offline, inactive corp) is relatively easy, but can be time consuming without the proper numbers or ships. It all boils down to whether the price to pay someone else to do it is worth the time it would take you to do it. For reference, a single cap-stable Oracle flown with excellent skills (including T2 guns and crystals) will take over 4 hours to take down an offline Amarr small tower. Other towers will take longer due to resist profiles.
