I, too have been curious about these Drifters, and wanted to take a look, so I hopped in my exploration ship and headed for the nearest Structure in system. They seem to not mind me and my Crucifier, (maybe because they scan no weapons on my ship) and they have technology that I have NEVER seen before. Their weapons seem to hover in place, fixed to the ship with some kind of electromagnetic system. I have no idea how ammo passes from the ship to the turrets, unless they use some kind of laser crystal coupled with a radioactive power source.

It also seems as though the long structures are actually the ships engines; some kind of space-time drive or something. I came to that conclusion by observing the rippling of space between them, something only observed elsewhere in the event horizon of black holes. At any rate, there is no sign of conventional exaust, no flames, nothing. Coupled with that fact, and others have mentioned an extremely fast sublight speed, the spae-time drive seems to be the most probable answer, and it appears the CONCORD file on it was accurate as well.

They also seem to have the same scanning technology the Circadian Seekers do, so now I believe these Drifters sent the Seekers first in order to find a new home.

They are also unlike your standard pirate, as these do not attack unless you attack them apparently. Either that or they don't see my Crucifier as a threat. Short of someone actually infilitrating the ship, I fear we will never find out about these Drifters...

other encounters suggest they may me more hostile when 'protecting' a resource, such as one of their wormholes.
