[EMERG] [A'J] Drifters - Emergency Statement

Hello everyone!
(That sounded jolly, didn't it? Well things got serious.)

I would like to issue an emergency statement concerning the 'Drifter Battleships' and the 'Drifters', that have recently been emerging from the new 'Unidentified Wormholes', based on the research we have performed at Arek'Jaalan, particularly in Project Salus, which was not fully made public until today - Hence the redacted expedition reports.

At first, a small team and I decided to attempt to initiate peaceful contact with the Drifter known as 'Apollo Tyrannos', we were greeted with weapons fire, from weapons CONCORD has named 'Lux Kontos' or translated from ancient dialect, 'Spears of Light'. After this occurred, I brought back a larger force, and attempted to negotiate once again, using the fleet as a show of force.

This did not go down well. At first, we managed to reduce the vessel's 'double shield' layer to standard shielding, but then, we were greeted with a far superior weapon - There is no official name known for this, but we have named it 'Lux Destructum', or 'The Destroying Light', it is comparable to a modern-day Titan's Doomsday Device, albeit battleship sized.

A Hyperion battleship was destroyed in one volley from this weapon.

Therefore I urge all my fellow capsuleers, to avoid the Drifters entirely! Do not attempt to engage unless you have a sufficient fleet of at least 2 cruisers, 2 ECM Frigates and 2 Battleships. Expect to lose at least three of these ships!

We have, however, managed to destroy two of these battleships, with combined efforts from locals and my team.

Stay safe, stay aware,
- Dr. Frenjo Borkstar.

Linked in and linked to general Drifter intel thread. Brief tactical summary posted.

Gods, I wish I could do more than this.

Good hunting, pilots.

Um. Doctor, did you recover anything from the Drifter wrecks?

Also, can you tell us anything about their vulnerabilities?

Their vulnerabilities appear to be ECM, jam them, and they will not be able to do anything.

We recovered standard Sleeper salvage, including Heuristic Selfassemblers, Powdered C-450, and Modified Fluid Routers to name a few.

The ships definitely are of sleeper design, but with a Jovian twist.

Dear Doctor,
First it is good to hear that ECM works on these piloted sleeper ships.
Second, I may have found something of value in the fight against sleepers. I have been formulating strategies and testing ships to combat sleepers. In doing so, I formed a hypothesis, that the pod, "Variant AU-79" coating was much more than just vanity.
So, I bought one. Well today I knew the cloaked structures were going uncloak. So I set out to one in an Atron, it was about 5min till seekers showed up. I decided to shoot, they immediately blew up my poor Atron, but, they did not pod me...instead they scanned me "all 5 of em" for a good 5 minutes. Then warped off.

I believe the coating had to do with them not podding me...I am trying to confirm in an armed Velator, but 15min now and they haven't returned.

(From what I had gathered that the Seeker behavior changed and they become aggressive, and ultimately pod)

P.S. Genolution is a compound word of Genetic and Evolution. It is known these Jovian Sleeper Battleship pilots (not capsuleers) are genetically modified to "Live on the edge" and they in-turn have shorter life-spans. I do not believe in coincidences.

I believe we are dealing with a hive-mind/structured enemy, up until now, we have seen worker drones, and now the warriors have left the hive.

Did you open fire first?

Because I just spent some time with Apollo and Artemis and there wasn't one shot fired.

What are your standings?

(And how the hell did CONCORD assign standings for us and the governments so quick? What do they know?)

Keep studying, keep trying to communicate or KEEP AWAY. You do not want to **ck with these people.

Yes, PEOPLE.

Um. It's starting to sound as though the Drifters are making their own choices about who to fire on.

If we believe Doctor Borkstar, Mr. Severasse, and you, they're maybe not all acting the same.

Perhaps they're exercising independent judgment? Like, ah, people?

Maybe ... ... people with no set rules of engagement?

Hm.

I want to clarify, I have not seen a Drifter yet, this is Circadian Seeker behavior. I was at one of the uncloaked "Unidentified Structures"...no drifters there. Only Seekers, I attacked the Seekers twice and they blew up my ship but did not pod me...just scanned my pod. Then immediately left w/o scanning structure (which is normal behavior and 2nd step after they scan the beacon, seen before I attacked)

The correlation between Drifter and Sleeper isn't known, all that is known is a correlation exists. But, with some more studies, it may be possible to engage any threats with the best implants installed and not worry about losing them.
I need to now test with other implants installed (right now, only the Variant AU-79 is installed)

P.S. I broadcasted in local before the second time I attacked in the Velator for confirmation, this time it was witnessed by capsuleer Kyoujin Choujin. Which sparked a local discussion about what was just witnessed.

I was immediately attacked on moving close to them, <30km. I called 'Apollo Tyrannos' out by name and asked for peaceful contact, then 'he' started shooting.

Which is a very bad move, considering the threat we're facing.

The had no issues with me at all. I flew right up to them, almost the wormhole even and all they did was scan me like the seekers do. A friend who was much farther away in a SoE astro was killed on sight.

Thoughts?

I was in a Stratios? Sisters of Eve ships maybe? Hmmph...

This needs looking into.

Any chance they were responding to the Astro's SoE design and technology?

It's kind of unusual, the way we capsuleers merrily switch from one civilization's tech to another, like changing clothes. Basically no one and nothing else does that.

Could it be they thought you were from a non-hostile faction, based on your ship type, and they don't care for the SoE?

Now I think about it, wasn't someone alleging some sort of sinister SoE doings around Thera? Or ... well, secretive doings, anyway?

Fellow Capsuleers,

a worrying thought came to my mind when I contemplated Frenjo Borkstar's warning and Jukko Riis' reply. What if the frightnening newcomers take advantage of the CONCORD standing system in order to further their needs? Given the very likely fact that they planned their advance in our empire space very carefully, it seems to be very likely that they tried to learn about the standing and security rating system as well. If they somehow perceive some of our faction as a possible ally or serious threat to their so far unknown goals, this would deliver a major aspect of intelligence.

I don't like conspiracies. But if this thought is turned around, someone who's able to manipulate the standing system, is able to passively direct the Drifter's aggression. I don't know if this is possible, but I suggest to systematically check the Drifter's reaction to different set of standing distribution. Beginning with those who are true neutral.

Respectfully,

True neutral ... you mean all standings at zero? That's mostly just rookie pilots.

If even those.

... I'm still hoping to see more data on what ship types get shot at.
