so if you added up the combined volume of everything stored in Jita IV-4 Caldari Navy...

Would it exceed the volume of the station itself?

If so should it matter?

The station will sink!

I'v always thought that unlimited space for everyone on all the stations was a weird thing. I always expected that one day those stations would ask a fee for exceeding certain (reasonable) amounts of space and asking additional rent for more space.

It never happend though, although it would be an excellent ISK-sink. Well only corps have that problem now I guess.

The universe would implode as jita 4-4 suddenly realizes its the center mass of the entire galaxy.

I'll do some calculations on this later today, though I recall it being about 4 times the volume of the station itself :)

Why wouldn't a station be able to do what every cargo container can do?

Nope, because EVE is good at time/space paradoxes.. .

each container can hold more than its actuall mass.

Storing more than your own mass is easy. (see a paper bag for details)
Storing more than your own volume, that's tricky. Blink

Because you can have containers inside a station while you can't put a container into a container.

It's something about plank bubbles and space time collapsing into itself in a infinite loop of plank bubble compression or something.

Then again, this may be the only thing keeping Jita 4-4 from collapsing.

Eventually Jita 4-4 will reach critical mass forming a super massive black hole. At first it will swallow up planet 4 and all the moons and research POS's nearby. Eventually the monster will swallow up the star and then the surrounding constellation culminating in the entirety of hi-sec. Hmm I guess that wouldn't be so bad after all....

On a more serious not Eve was my first MMO. I never realized how easy we have it when it comes to inventory management. We can keep stuff around that makes those pack rats on "Hoarders" look like they are keeping only the bare essentials for existence. The whole concept of vaults and bag space was foreign to me. If I need more space in a ship add cargo expanders. Still not enough... freighter!!!!!! And no limit to your hangar!!! Compared to other MMO's Eve is paradise for storing your stuff.

I'm still trying to figure out how my ship maintenance array a the POS hold many ships in addition to my naglfar. That dread is larger than the POS tower, let alone that tiny ship maintenance array.

Lets face it - a game with 3 different modes of faster than light travel may have technology for folding dimensions or something.

Or its just one more bit of suspension of disbelief.

On a side note, I'd be more interested in the value of all the stuff stored in that station

actually, there is limit to every container, including hangar. iirc, it's something like 1000 stacks, each with about 2 bil items. tho, there could be 1000 containers, each with 1000 stacks.

Try not to think about it, just like people don't think about how a Naglfar ever fits through any of the station docking bays (even sideways, sometimes).
