Mission Items Not Dropping

Hey guys,

So I've been running a lot of security missions over the past week or two (Not because I enjoy it) and I've been having a real rough time with "Retrieve" missions - Those missions where you're asked to warp into a pocket, kill all the ships and then loot an item from a can that spawns from the last rat that's killed.

Every time I get one of these retrieve missions lately, the mission item fails to drop and i'm forced to send a petition to CCP to have the mission reset.

It's not confined to a specific agent, corporation, faction, mission level or even one client. It happens to my alts and my main. I've run everything from level 1 missions with Aliastra to level 4 missions with Ministry of Internal Order to the level 4 Amarr epic arc, and without fail, every. Single. Time. Regardless of who I take the mission from, I never get the drop.

Now, i've been running missions on and off for years. I know how they work.

I also don't (think) I have any issues with my overview, if there's even a chance it could be that - I have tabs specifically set for PVE and even another tab for "Everything" and it shows up on none of them.

The can's don't even show up in space. They just simply do not exist.

I'd hoped that one of you might have an answer for me because i'm tired of failing missions and sending CCP petitions to get the agents reset. I'm probably on my 5th or 6th petition by now and I'd really like to get this resolved.

It's totally possible that it's an error on my end, but I'm just baffled as to what it could be aside from the possibilies mentioned above. Any help would be appreciated.

Sometimes they are in a wreck, not a can. That is all I can think of. I know that soldiers and virus show up on last ship's wreck on some missions. But then if you have been doing them for years you knew that.

most mission completion items are either in a cargo container, or in the wreck of the ship you are supposed to kill. And in a few missions the cargo container spawns from the last ship of a specific group killed. It is possible you have a bracket setting that doesn't show cargo containers in space. and/or cargo containers are not on your overview. or maybe a mobile depot is scooping the loot?

I haven't run any missions in like a week, but I assume it is on your end, as this is the first I'm hearing of it. Although it does sound quite odd.

I'll fiddle around with my bracket settings. TBH i've never touched them because they confuse me but i'll take another look.

Also, should have mentioned it but the drops are not in the wrecks. I've been making sure I do everything possible to rule out pilot error and have been double checking wrecks. Nothing in the wrecks, no cargo containers, nothing.

Good to know that it hasn't been happening elsewhere. It's gotta be me then.

Alt+Z is your friend; or whatever shortcut you have "Show all brackets" set to.

that is why I was guessing the bracket thing, although should still show up on the overview if you have everything on there.Sometimes I turn cargo containers off when flying around or doing some activities, I can see other people doing it too.

Uugh I feel so stupid.

Had "Cargo Container" unchecked in my overview after all.

*Removes foot from mouth*

After having the agent reset, I tried the mission again planning to mess around with brackets until I found the problem.
Just as i'm finishing up the mission a neutral Gila warps in. After a quick KB and corp check I convo the guy, and he says he's considering ninja salvaging my wrecks. I told him he could feel free, i'd even blue them for him. Then I asked him if he could see a cargo can on overview by any chance, and he said yeah, and flew to the wreck it was at.

So I don't know how it happened but somewhere along the line I derped while adjusting my overview tabs. Apparently unchecking an item from the Types list also makes it so that you cannot see the item in space...or at least that's how my own overview settings are configured.

Thanks to the dude who didn't loot my can after telling him I was looking for one. Not sure I would have been so helpful.

Also thanks to you guys for the suggestions. 3 years in and i'm still derping Cry

Edit: Looking back to OP, the reason it happened to all my accounts is because I share the same overview between them all. If I make a small change to one, it gets linked to all the rest asap.

I love it when things make sense Big smile

I think we all have done similar derps. Like flying though 5 systems wondering why no sigs when I have ships checked in the scanner....

Overviews can seem daunting and overwelming, wouldn't it be great if someone took the time to make one we can all download in-game....

SaraShawa Overview Pack

There is also a chat channel where you get this in-game.

To access the pack, join the "SaraShawa-Overview" channel ingame, and read the MOTD.

Good to hear you got the issue fixed.

After each patch release, it's a good idea to check your overview settings. CCP has a bad habit of when adding Ships / NPC's / structures, etc to the game they won't add them to show in the Overview.

Also it's a good idea to clear cache files in Esc menu - reset settings tab. That basically helps remove little bugs and such.
